Hi,

I hope this will help someone. I've been having problems with my S2 running. I checked all the other sensors and did a visual check on the air flow meters inc cleaning them.

But still had problems. However, i've just noticed that when i touch the lead to the lower AFM, the engine perks up and runs fine, then when i remove my finger it plays up again. After investigating further this is what i have found.

I have ringed the problem areas, after a while the metal contacts that are attached dorectly to the socket the other side bund upwards and fail to connect to the circuit board.

Also on mine the brass sensor contact, (also ringed) was also raised up and not conecting, but this may have been caused by me stripping the part down.

I'll let you know if this solves the problem.

Yeah got a pair coming of the bay.

If that doesnt solve it then i'll be replacing Idle Control Valve, The Throttle Pot.

Then god knows what.

Cheers

you said earlier that when you held the connection things improved... have you checked the connection itself to see if any of the wires are loose/broken ? you must be onto something if you noticed a difference...

and the theres that bloody vacuum hose that had me tied up in knots...

You need a moving coil multimeter (with a needle not digital).
Connect it on the ohms range across the wiper connection (the metal contact than moves) and the far end of the black carbon track.
Check out that black wire to the middle contact isn't broken aswell - its been bouncing around & moving backwards and forwards for 15 years or so!

As you move the mechanism watch the meter to make sure the needle moves smoothly up / down the resistance range with no dropouts or sudden changes. An oscilloscope would be even better but we can't all have one of those biggrin

You might need to change the resistance range on the meter until you get one that moves significantly on the meter.

You cannot see this effect on a digital multimeter - only a moving needle can show the voltage flickering.

That black carbon track can wear out (through) on stuff like this - it thats happened its had it.

Just ordered a throttle Pot from ebay. Its the same one that Yellabelly talked about back in may

(Try this guy on ebay, I've had a TP from him, they are identical to the Ford TP but only £19.99 ea.
Seem to work OK, at this price it's worth a try.

Item ref:180243301350)

Just wondered, will i need to rewire for this? Also if ya reading this yellabelly, is it still working ok?

Cheers
