As the title really,

I am in the process of (or rather was until this! banghead) fitting a Range Rover V8 into my Wedge.

I have realised that gearbox input shaft will not mate to the clutch due to different spline pattern, thats lack of research for you!

I now know that I need a SD1 clutch and spigot bush (much larger on the Range Rover).

Now, do I need a new flywheel as well? According to Rimmer bros. the Range Rover flywheel will not fit inside a 'sports or saloon' gearbox, but it does. Or do they mean in term of thickness once assembled? (the chap on the phone TBH didn't have clue).

Any ideas?

Thanks

James

ETA. Just realised that there is an 1" difference between the two http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/rimmer/sd1/v8/flywheel

Have I just answered my own question?

Another look at the engine, the flywheel seems to sit in a recess in the block, rather than the 'box.

Yes. The RR one is indeed 1" bigger.
You need a new flywheel, plate, cover and spigot.

Is the size difference much of an issue?

I have just mated the 'box and engine together and the fly wheel does fit and spin freely (from what I can tell).

I guess that the SD1 clutch won't bolt onto the bigger fly wheel though!

Thanks
