I have done a quick search and can't find an answer, can anyone tell me roughly how much a cambelt change for a golf mk IV 1.6 should be? A mate is thinking of buying parts and getting it fitted for beer money, anythng else that needs checking/changing at the same time? Thanks Andy

At a dealer you're probably talking about £350.

Make sure you get the water pump changed at the same time as they are notorious for packing in due to using an inferior plastic impellor.

Hi mate, had my gti's cam belt done a few months ago. It was £240 at a dealers. They did price match a local specialist though, so it may be worth trying it on! Originally they quoted a touch over £400! Not sure about the 1.6 but on the 1.8t its well worth getting the waterpump done while its in bits also don't forget to have the tensioner done too. Most places such as GSF or Euro car parts sell the cambelt kits with all the bits you need for about 90-100 notes i think.

All the best!
