Determining exact paint code

Using the extensive colour code chart in the GTO3 website and having found Azure blue, which I believe is the colour of my car, does anybody know whether all the paint numbers listed are required to achieve the metallic finish. Or if only one paint code is required how do you determine which one pertains to your car.

Good Luck, I am having a f*cking nightmare at the moment trying to get my paint to match, after 3 lots still not matched, it is now in Leeds ( thanks Peter) with a main PPG agent who will require 10 days to match it!!
If this dont match I am going to have to repaint the whole car!!
Mine is a Noble only colour though (portafino), so hopefully yours is from another car maker, if that is the case it should be easy.

I had a feeling it may be a bit of a beatch.

Although I'm pretty sure somebody referred to it as 'Ford Blue' once not sure in what context though. It is listed as Viper blue on GTO3 site so we live in hope.

Did you get any joy from VIN number and phoning the factory which I believe is the normal route for normal cars

I have the full PPG code, however they are for a 2k paint, and the tinters etc for waterbased are not the same.
Also mine is a metallic and has a very slight pearl in it, so that does make matching harder.

I got my paint code from the factory (carbon black), with the full PPG breakdown for the bodyshop.

I spent a while tracking the code down and finally got my Azure blue listed under "Dodge Viper GTS Blue PBE" now be careful as there are about three viper blues all very similar but some more metallic than others,so I bought 1/8th litre (approx £4) to check against mine. Why are you making it hard for yourselves!!! Just call the factory as D G and I did. There is a really nice lady that works the reception, if you I've here the last 4 or 5 digits of your chassis number she will call you back with all of the details.

Hmmmmm, why didnt I do that... oh hang on I did. Paint still does not match.
FYI, Paint codes on GTO3.com are direct from the factory.

I will obviously have to wait and see.

Out of interest did you manage to use a paint company that used the PPG codes and mixed their own paint or did whoever you used just use the paint code as in CHR SBE or similar. Or did you indeed try both options and still have no luck?

Answers on a postcard from where ever you're trying to source your paint.

Not quite that easy.. Alex's colour is Noble only, not used by any other manufacturer.

Called factory, got code. Fantastic. Matches gto3.com code. Even better. Matches code Alex got. Brilliant.

However, problem. Alex had a sample made, and so did my painter. Doesn't match.

Called PPG. The guy looks it up and it isn't a base metallic. It has a slight pearl.

So another company using a spectrophotometer might come up with an identical match, but it can't take into account the effect from natural light (the result of the pearl), so will never match in real life.

Also explained the tints, (or colours) listed are solvent based tints. PPG no longer make solvent tints. New water based tints are different colours and different codes.

But, send in a sample from the car, along with the code, and PPG will reverse engineer, and make water based formula. This i have done, and we await sample and formula.

See? Easy!

It is mate, hence me thinking about giving up and painting the whole car. (and going to a standard colour)

There was me thinking it would be a 2 week turn around on the clam, now looking more like 8 weeks.
Another summer wasted....

But must say a big thankyou to Peter for once again going that extra mile to help sort it out.
At the moment, front clam is in Kent, car is in london, paint in yorkshire..

Is not the pearl like the Cerberra paint and you undercoat with siver then paint the colour on top! Looked at a yellow pearlescent years ago, fantastic!

If I'm on the wrong lines please tell me to shut up!

Yes, mine's a Peugeot red - when I was looking I absolutely loved the portafino colour.
Glad I didn't go for it now....

Hope you get it sorted. Is the chipping really bad?
Personally I'd consider just leaving it if it becomes too much of a pain.

The clam was fine, but I have converted it to the 3R/M400 lights, alos have added the reverie CF louveres onto the top of the clam.

Not an issue anymore as I have decided to respray the whole car a different colour.
