Just a query really; Just noticed in the jaguar handbook that 95 ron unleaded is recommended for my car- the 4.2 R.
I have naturally been using Superunleaded considering the performance ( and had been used to doing this in previous tuned Saabs).
Anyone notice the benefits of running on SUL ? Massive difference to MPG for example? Or should i fill up with the cheaper stuff ?

There have been discussions on here before, but I think the general consensus is that there is no noticeable difference when using Super Unleaded.

I'd agree.

I ran my XJ on Tesco 99 octane for over 1000 miles just to see if it was worth it - and really didn't notice any improvement in performance or fuel economy.

Changing tyre pressures from maximum comfort to full load pressure had a much bigger effect on economy and performance than fuel octane I found.

I have a S-Type 4.2 SE. I have run it occasionally on the higher octane fuel but have not noticed any difference, except when I use Esso's variety. For some reason it just seems to be noticably improved with this. However, I usually stick to 95 octane with no downside.

Thanks for the info everyone. 95 ron it is then. That will make up some of the delight of averaging 19mpg smile
