Just a curious question really, as i got shouted at by a pair of community support wombles on their MTB's as i flew past them at mach2.

can you be prosecuted for speeding on a bike?

what are the consequences for running a red light? ( besides probable death! )

It's almost worth being done to have that on your licence hehe Although would it go on your car licence? scratchchin

Correct, but the wording might be duff....

And, when I take over, punishable by death...

Slowly...

Nothing to do with your driving licence, so I guess it's a fine.

If you have a look on speeding/plod and the law there was a few pages written about this.If i remember right, the legal opinion was it was nonsense, but the bib can pretty much make up whatever they want these days to keep figures up.I've been ticked off a few times now for drafting vehicles, not so much over the limit of speed, but just dangerous in their opinion.

Yes, you can be done for speeding. The rozzers oftern hide in Richmond park to catch any cyclists doing over 20mph.

Offences committed on a bicycle have no effect on a driving license, if possessed.

Speeding is good one, for how is the rider supposed to ascertain his speed? Most GPS units give a more accurate reading of speed than does a car speedo, not every rider has one or uses it for that purpose.

Richmond Park is a wierd one, I am unaware if any accusation of "speeding" has been made to stick.

Triggering the Gatso on a downhill section of 30mph limit whilst riding a bike must be a bit of a hoot.

Is that definite? I'm thinking of that old chap who got banned for standing at the side of the road holding a sign up. I got the impression that your license may be at risk from things that have no direct relationship to driving.

I used to race downhill in the nineties in the NAMBS/NEMBA series amoungst others. I went through the speed trap at 52 mph in wharncliffe forest....that felt quite quick ! yes

I think I won a pair of tyres for that !

I believe it is illegal to ride a bike on a public highway with a limb not attached to it, so one handed or one footed.

No idea about speeding though.

Good one that. It is difficult to see what legislation covers riding a bike no hands. It would be interesting to know how Britplod are brief regarding Premier and Pro events in UK, where rding hands off for a while is considered norm for such functions as, sorting out food after a feeding station and putting on/removing waterproof jackets.

There is very little money in prosecuting cyclists. There is no way to verify identity via a numberplate and we dont have to carry ID cards yet so you are a fool if you give the plod your real name and address.

Erm, yes. A fool. rolleyes

Ever heard of PCOJ?

Giving false details does often tend to lead to arrest and a leisurely attitude to release until they have been confirmed!

i thought riding whilst under the influence was a fineable and licence point reducing offence.

I would presume if you were going at such a speed to make a policemen to notice they would charge you with reckless riding or what ever the term is.

Dont think its daft either as however much fun it is to zip down a hill at 40+ how many drivers do you think would notice your speed and drive accordingly as not left turn accross you?

Nope I have not heard of a PCOJ (Orange Juice for a copper?)
But I have been stopped for skating/riding etc and I have never
a) given correct details
b) stuck around long enough to "stay caught / stopped"

The first time I got stopped was while I was skating away from a riot involving leeds football fans. Every window in bournemouth was smashed, they saw a group of skaters wonder into view and went nuts. We sprinted for our lives while every missile possible was launched at us (including)a flag pole. We got clear and some stupid shaved monkey in a police uniform tried to arrest us for skating on the prom.
We impolitely told him what he could do with his intention to arrest us and accuratly described what oriface to stick it in then disapeared as a fresh volley of spent beer cans was fired at us.

It is a waste of time and effort for coppers to spend time arresting cyclists and skaters. The half the government demand we get out of our car to stop polution / get excercise / stop watching tele etc and the other half of the govt want to fine us / arrest us for having the audacity for riding our bikes etc.

I have ZERO respect for morons thinking they are supporting the community by harassing cyclists. Can you imagine any other country in the world upholding any such rule?

Pathetic.
