Here we go, given the build quality of the powder coating of the original factory chassis and the lack of access to the top of the outriggers I have decided to buy a super clean chassis and prep it my spec for my own beastie.
I intend to bare metal prep it then make it into a future proof chassis it should have come with all the best options available.
This thread may run for some time but I only got the chassis back today and would just to like to share my intentions with fellow enthusiasts.

Will update regularly, just be patient. biggrin

"Any old iron any old iron any any old, old iron?
You look neat - talk about a treat,
You look dapper from your napper to your feet.
Dressed in style, brand new tile,
And your father's old green tie on,
But I wouldn't give you tuppence for an old griff chassis,
Old iron, old iron?"

Since you have no rush and want to do a proper job, perhaps you could help us all out with this.

Sportmotive have a jig to make outriggers but don’t AFAIK offer a stainless steel option. CliveF has been talking about making stainless steel outriggers when he has to do his car. But he has no jig. He said that stainless outriggers can be welded on using the correct filler wire for the job.

Now with all the lovely other bits he’s been making recently and his outriggers still being good, he hasn’t got around to doing it.

Many people are now finding they need to replace their outriggers. Replacing with normal steel means they will have to do the whole job again in a few years. In the intervening years they will have to waste hours on maintenance like waxoyl.

If you and Clive got together and so he could make a jig, he could sell them and you would never need to waxoyl yours.

I would let him at my chassis, but like his, it doesn’t need doing and won’t for several years.

But when it does, there is no way I would fit normal steel when I can fit stainless.

Leave it as it is. TVR Atom.

Has anyone ever thought of injecting Waxoyl into the tubes or is that overkill?
