Being the token young person who likes photography but is relatively inexperienced, I have just been asked by the Directors secretary if I was to buy a camera as a retirement present (For said director) which one would I choose.

budjet is £800 - £1000, has to be available from Jessops to buy today. (Retiremnet Party is tomorrow)

Not sure if he is a Canon or a Nikon man, no idea about his expereince pressume it's a new retirement hobby.

initial thoughts are either a D80 or a 40d with some sort of bundle.

Thoughts please

I'd go for the 40D.

It's a bit much to ask someone to choose a system for someone but you can't really go wrong with Canon. Stonking retirement gift though! Must be quite a guy smile

Brilliant camera. If you say it is for a present they will probably let him change it if he already has Nikon or other brand lenses

Thanks for the advice, confirmed my thoughts as I am a canon man albeit with a lower budget.

Pretty sure this is his first dslr, but like you say i'm sure Jessops will allow him to change if not.

Definitely a nice gift, but he is a nice guy who has been with the company for 30 years.

Thanks again!
