New VW Golf

New Golf gets Scirocco styling...

VW has officially unveiled images of its sixth generation Golf which borrows its styling from the new Scirocco. The company says the new car follows on from the other five models but is a step forward in terms of quality.

Inside there is soft touch plastics mixed with aluminium and chrome. VW's engineers say they have reduced wind noise thanks to new door and window seals making this the quietest Golf yet.

Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board, Volkswagen AG, said: ‘This sixth generation of Golf cars will completely redefine the quality and comfort level of its class over broad categories, offering more customer value than ever before.’

Volkswagen Group’s head of design, Walter de Silva, added:  ‘It is more accentuated than its predecessor with precisely defined lines and edges and with finely proportioned flared surfaces and recesses.'

For the first time, Volkswagen’s Adaptive Chassis Control will be offered on the Golf. This is available on the Passat CC and standard on the new Scirocco, and allows the driver to select from normal, comfort or sport modes to define the desired suspension, steering and accelerator response settings for any particular journey.

Automatic Distance Control is also offered, which monitors the area around the vehicle through a series of sensors and will, if necessary, reduce the vehicle’s speed should an obstruction be identified.

Prices and specifications for the new Golf will be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch towards the end of the year.  The new Golf goes on sale in the UK in January.

I think it looks bloody good for a bog standard hatch.

Think it makes the Mk5 look dated already.

Not keen myself.

The Golf V will be a better 2nd hand buy, and was apparently expensive to manufacture vs the IV and this new VI, so that makes it even more appealing 2nd hand smile

The motoring equivalent of Magnolia Paint - The VW Golf - the car for people without any flair or imagination.

As opposed to a seat tdi (your "sensible" car) which exudes style, flair and imagination then. Your logic is truly astonishing.

Not keen, because the sides are so smooth looking, but the rear looks a bit Audi Sportback A3 thingy, and then the front is chisseled looking.

There is no real cohesive style. OK, the Golf V isn't massively inspiring, but you can tell the front belongs to the side belongs to the back.

Hate the back, very boring. The MK IV looked better, IMHO. Actually, now I think about it each new version looks worse then the old one.

I like the front end styling, looks quite aggressive - but the rear is just wrong, the lights are to heavy, it looks like an MPV! People may say it seems a boring car, though I'd say its understated [exactly what a Golf should be]. Sure the GTi will look better?

Designed by the same guy who designs Porsche's new cars (i.e. he just copies the old ones and stretches the headlamps and brake lamps a bit)?

Or the Ford Puma...the motoring equivalent of ass-less chaps....Ooohh look, I can stereotype as well rolleyes

reminds me of this from the back....

And so I take it the three door version is basically a five seat scirocco? Not quite sure on this yet, I know EU safety laws dictate certain styling aspects but to me is a bit to safe....having said that, I do like the new front end....R32'd version would look lovely I'm sure.

Looks OK to me ... and the dash is quite nice .... but what are VW up to when it comes to wheels??!!

They look bloody awful ..... even worse than those on the current GTi which are dire.

They've shot themselves in the foot IMO. The Scirocco looks so much better.

Get real - A Leon is less ubiquitous and has less style than a Mk4/5/6 Golf? Off you pop...

So, just because YOU think a leon is better looking and less common than a golf (not going into variants), allows you to judge people who drive golfs as having no "flair or imagination"? rolleyes

You sound more retarded with each post. wavey

Front and side look ok. The back looks wrong.

But then I didn't like the MK5 when it 1st came out either so my opinion will probably change in time

Just like the Lupo-->Fox transition, VW cost cutting has made the Mk6 Golf vs the Mk5 look like they've stepped back a decade due to the damm accountants penny pinching mad.
