I got new pedals for my cranks a while ago. They're now making a horrible clicking noise as they go around, the pedals spin freely so I suspect it's the crank/pedal thead area that clicks rather than the pedals themselves.

I tightened them up as tight as I could but that just made it worse!

Worn threads maybe?

Moose.

DMR V8s? Mine do this after a while.

If so you'll need to adjust the cup'n'cone bearings, as well as refilling with grease. Good article here on how to get them running smoothly again:

The bolt holding the cranks onto the bottom bracket was loose on one side paperbag

Sounds familiar. Mine was making funny noises two days ago, then it felt wobbly, then it fell off. Luckily the wobbly pedal had slowed me down enough to ensure I didn't fall off and make a tit of myself.

So far I have realised on a bike, after various broken axles, bottom brackets, wonky pedals etc:

Intermittent annoying noise = not serious

Constant annoying noise that makes people look at you when you go past = serious
