Hi
I have a CLK Cab 320 and very pleased with it over the 4 years I have owned it. It is a 2001 Avante guarde
I recently had an issue with the roof opening mechanism. I.e the central operating mechanism that is connected to the handle fell to bits.
It appears that the mechanism is held together by 2 rivets holding 2 plates with spindles. The spindles hold the 2 operating bars that open the catches further along the roof.
THis whole asbly is £540+ and individual bits are not available.
I got a friend who is tool maker to have a look and he fixed it by removing the spindles/rivets and replacing them two with threaded bars. A whole lot stronger and better design than the original.
However I still have aproblem in that the whole assbly can move up and down without operating the handle and it looks like a split washer has come off at the central main spindle . This is located weel inside the roof. I suspect that this was the original problem and put additional strss on the 2 rivets.I hope to replace this washer at the weekend thus saving a large bill if I can get one from a local bits and pieces supplier.
Has anyone had the same issues as looking at the design I cant believe that it hasnt happened many time before
