Front Brake Calipers - anyone got any?
Discussion
I 'enjoyed' total brake failure last weekend, so I am looking for some front brake calipers for the Cerbera. Obviously they need to be in good working order. Looked in classifieds but nothing there.
Just thought that maybe a random post might jog someones memory that they had a pair 'lurking' in the garage that they would like to sell?
Here's hoping

.That must have been scary
New and refurbed AP Calipers are available, but pricey. IIRC they cary from £80-250, or you can try the usual breakers yards like Bell Hill.
Or alternatively save yourself loads of dosh and repair them yourself....

Yep. Although not quite as alarming as it could have been because I was just approaching the turning left into Silverstone, so not carrying lots of speed! Clearly my time is not up yet!
Thanks for your suggestions, I'd love to do them myself and if I can find someone with the knowledge and patience to teach me, I will do it. Just thought I'd minimise the time off the road, by seeing if I could get some others and then I can play with the ones I take off - without the time constraints
.As usual - I want it all ways!

What's wrong with the calipers you have?
Strip, clean and rebuild them and they'll be as good as new.
With the help of new fluid of course.
Calipers are expensive, and any bought second hand will need rebuilding anyway.

Not sure - but something sure is if my brakes failedStrip, clean and rebuild them and they'll be as good as new.

. Edited to add; one of the pistons seized and boiled my brake fluid. Strange thing was though - the car wasn't pulling to one side, so I couldn't feel the problem building - it must have been quick!
Thanks for the advice - if I achieve this, I will post - because I will be very proud of myself and as a result, will be taking on caliper rebuilds as a sideline!

Spot on. When I checked with BG Dev a seal kit was a bit more than a tenner per caliper, the labour might be expensive though. Strip, clean and rebuild them and they'll be as good as new.

Ooohhh... a fine young lady who rebuilds brake calipers herself... now that's my definition of

I think the keyword here is *if*!
I now have TC's calipers on the car as of last night, so after hols I will see what I can achieve!Glad you think that's cool - that sort of thing has mixed reactions here in Blighty!

Btw, are you attending SPAreRING in October?
You won't want to do this for a living Amazon, you will end up with Chimp-Hands! Pre-supposing you don't already have them
The fluid is like bleach and strips the oils out of your pores.
Excelent info on the Equivalent parts list for replacement seals. Have all the kit for mine, just waiting for a day to do it. If memory serves the list on the thread is for a 4.2, and I believe you have a 4.5 so need to check piston sizes before ordering.

I am sure you're right!

This is the challenge actually - although I find working on the car is a great way to sort out which are the better nail polishes! (Although I doubt that information will be that useful on this forum!
).Thanks for the tip about the list! Will be very useful
. I do actually have a 4.2, but will check piston sizes all the same - ta.Interested to know how you get on, you are probably much better qualified to do this, so any tips would be welcomed, thanks B.

A lot of Blighty seems to be fifty years behind in attitude in some ways then, anyway
, I mean, I can't believe you haven't been inundated with marriage proposals from the boys after this tidbit... come on, what's wrong with you folks.
