To cerb, or not to cerb?
Discussion
Evening all!
I've just sold my P4 replica and find myself looking at a desperately empty parking space, lol!
I'm weighing up a number of options and TVR may be one - without wishing to start any punch outs a speed 6 based car is out, which leaves the good old AJP cerb.
I'm hoping TVRs have come a long way since my first financially suicidal dalliance with a 280 Tasmin back in the mid 80s - lordy that was painful!!
I've been reading and I think I know what desirable extras to look for - I've also got the message that it's condition not age that matters so what to look out for . . .
What sort of mpg (real world) do you guys get and what's parts availability like?
Also 4.2 or 4.5? (yeah, probably is a bit provocative!)
There's a very 'unusual' colour 4.5 cerb up that looks interesting (but is bloody miles away and needs the plate changing so a bit of a pfaff) *edit* lets cut to the chase - it's the Mclaren orange one (C1RVY) which interestingly seems to have gone up a grand in price! *edit*
I know there's no guarantees but I suppsoe i'm just looking for some kind of reassurance it won't be as bad as rumours tend to suggest (nor as bad as that Tasmin!!)

Two colours - no tell a lie 3 - have really stood out when I've nosed around previously - pearl white, yellow and this orange one http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/613556.htm

I use mine everyday and its not missed a beat..... However its not a German mass produced car and you may well need to fix the odd small problem yourself otherwise it could cost a few £££££

C1RVY's is by all accounts a stonking car that has money lavished on it and all the right kind of upgrades. Plates are easy to change (he may even want to take it off) so I would recommend it highly in that price band.
Cheers for that TC, must admit mine is still available after a very successful Rob Ingleby inspection & a couple of offers that failed to meet my expectations.OK back again - spent far too many weeks dicking around over a 246 GTS replica and now back on the car circuit looking at TVR cerbs and entry level Ferrari's Yes, chalk and cheese I'll grant you but there you go! I actually think a 308 GT4 is worse on fuel than a cerb - somthing to do with insisting on a carb barrel per cylinder, lol! I know I mentioned mpg but I'm not that scared of it - I had a cobra before the P4, that said single figure overall consumption would be a no!
Have a realistic budget of up to £20K on the car which leaves me plenty as a sink fund for those 'unforeseens'
Is there an average mileage at which the 4.5 is generally regarded as probably needing a rebuild? I like the look of the 01 black 4.5 LW but at 48K I don't want to be walking into a rebuild in relatively short time. Also who should I consider to do an inspection and what's the going rate(ish)?
Cash is burning holes and I need a new toy!

- edit* B0ll0x!! How did I miss the very obviously titled "How many miles before a rebuild" thread - doh!!!! Apologies
- 2nd bloody edit* Looks like that thread is specifically aimed at the Dark Knight car, lol! Must be my week to buy a lottery ticket! I'll get my coat . . . .

Drove down from Scotland to London & didn't thrash it at all, 600miles cost £150, so about 21mpg. Around town it does roughly none to the gallon, but is so much fun to drive, you honestly wont give two hoots!!!
I like the look of the black knight, but the yellow ones do look very impressive! I was surprised how good purple looks in the flesh, saw a purple tuscan in a show room, if it was a cerb i'd of had it, some colours look awfull in photographs.....strange!!

Truth is I love everything Cerbera. If it wasn't for the housing problems I wouldn't even be thinking about selling it. It's by far the best car I have ever owned

Preempt the questions, then a serious buyer can make a call, will save you answering countless e-mails too

Hope you don't take this the wrong way, just trying to help as someone who's spent 'forever' scouring the classifieds...I wanted to know every little detail...
