I'm looking for a 5 litre engine complete for a Griff. Have been looking on Ebay, but haven't had much sucess with genuine people, only fraudsters. What is it with folk these days? Why can't people just be honest without trying to cheat and scheme.

Anyway, if anyone knows of such an animal, I would be most grateful.

Could the money be better spent on a rebuild or are you actually missing an engine?

Ah well, there-in lies the problem. The original car is a 4.0L pre cat Griff,(with a 500 front end, the green one in the Griff book) and the man who owns it, has run the crank and wrecked the cam. He would like me to put a 5.0L in instead, and so I will rebuild one of those rather than spending money on the old engine.

I intend to mate it to a T5 and install the newly modified unit back into the car. Nice project to do 5.0L pre cat. Imagine how nice that will sound.

Hi I have a mechanic friend that is selling his engine taken of his chim. The engine was a 4.0 but he has shown me receipts of around 12.000£ at Henley Heritage tunning it and giving it more capacity, the guy is American so he used lots of parts from the states . The engine is kicking out about 400bhp and it is mint. his chim was one of the fastest tvrs i ve been in.

If you are interested in talking to him let me know

Wow, thanks chaps, a great response. I bid on the ebay engine £3000, but was proxy bid at the last min. sounded a reasonable lump.

I will contact those of you in the morning.

I might be able to help...but Im waiting to hear from my insurance company.

My 5ltr Griff engine was a peach, just had a rebuild, but not sure if I will be able to buy back the car for salvage after my little incident on the way to Classic Le Mans.

If you cannot find a 5.0 you could allways re-build a 4.5. I think TVR used the later 4.5 as the base unit for their later 5.0s. After all it just stroked, so you would need the 5.0 crank and a decent set of stage 3 heads.
