Hi,

Has anyone made themselves a cable according to
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dave.hinns/software.h...

I can get hold of some 0.1% tolerance resistors from http://www.rapidonline.com,
but they don't do the 1k05 one.

Does anyone know anywhere in the UK I can get hold of these resistors ?
Or can I buy a made up cable.

If not I'm told I can place 2 x 100R resistors in parallel with a 1k in serial
to make the 1k05.

Is this correct ?

I think most of us just use an ordinary off the shelf serial cable from PC World/Maplins etc.

I make them up and get the resistors from Maplins.

Yes this will give 1k05. 2k2 in parallel with 2k0 also gives the same with easily obtainable E24 series components. Does anyone here know why SBD us such high tolerance resistors?

If its the later 3 pin type I made mine with no resistors. I copied the one used by Racing green, they let me pull it apart!

Works fine. Hope that helps

I got enough stuff from maplins (got resistors elsewhere) to make 5 cables, made one for myself, works fine, firstly ensure that your ecu has the 9 pin connector (sometimes have to take cover off and its in middle of unit)

I'll make up the other four out of my remaining spares (i bought 5 as i got the resistors from a place that sold them in 5s)and sell them at cost to pistonheads members I guess, want one?

I do have the disconnection issue where ecu intermittently loses connection, but this isnt due to the cable, this is due to other stuff (theres a thread elsewhere on here bout it)

Just taken my cover plate off and mine is a 9 pin.... can I have dibs on one? im having some running problems so hoping that I can sort it myself!

ah, good old vagcom! handy being able to turn on and off the anti-hijack and the door lock confirmation beeps - not much else could be done with it though, right?!

ecu is in passenger footwell, connector often inside it , sometimes outside, sometimes doesnt even have 9 pin connector (rare)

i bought enough for 5 cables, made one for myself, and will flog the rest at cost (£10 inc postage) to pistonheads members - 3 left!

I too have spare resisitors. (Packs of 5 from RS)

Took the lazy route of chopping into a standard RS 232 cable from maplins, reconfiguring and connecting resistors as per diagram on Dave's website.

Not planning on making more cables but if anyone requires resistors I may be able to oblige

If you have an old laptop with a standard serial port, a standard cable from PC World/Maplins is fine for doing the diags.
