New Esprit owner -- Questions/Help
Discussion
My Black 88 Esprit turbo just arrived off the truck! Overall I am very pleased with the car, some minor issues that a good days work could fix. I had to have a friend drive the car home, because my thighs are so large I couldn't really steer the car effectivly with the limited room.
So, in light of my new ride, I need help with the following:
1) Will the seat mod gain me a few inches? Bolting directly to the floor that is. I'm 6'2" and I felt very comfortable with the layout of the pedals and interior, but the wheel was very much in my way
2) Is there a quick way to swap out that wheel for something smaller? There is the lotus meet this weekend at Road Atlanta, and I would very much like to go with the car. However, if I can't drive it comfortably, I don't want to risk the hour trek down there.
3) Drivers window was very slow to go down. Is this a possible switch issue as listed on the espritfactfile? or maybe just a rusty track?
4) Windshield wipers do not work. Possible switch issue. Everything else electrical seemed to work just fine.
5) The interior could stand a bit of cleanup. Should I look into changing out the OEM seats for aftermarket ones (room?) or clean up the stockers? Headliner is falling down a bit, but those are available from LCU correct?
6) Engine had trouble starting when cold. Possible due to it's long trek across country. Once it was worm, cranked right up. Is there any adjustment to aid cold-starts?
7) I will be changing the oil, transaxle oil, and the air filter. Should I do the plugs/wires? Car had it's timing belt service done 6K ago.
Overall, the paint is very good! Only a few spots of fiberglass stress cracks, and clear is peeling in some areas. Going to have my bodyman look at it.
Thanks a bunch!
James

I'm 6ft 3" and i will be changing the seats for some GT3 or Sparco Roadster's.
At present I have enough room to drive, left leg rubs on steering wheel when reasting on the clutch but doing what you suggest will help matter but you will lose any adjustment.
Check out "Superdave"'s photos for before and after cleaning seats and interior.
Will regard to the belt if it was changed over two years ago get it done. Also get freescan and find the codes say.
Top tip: get a pair of puma trainers (sparco race shoe like ones) these give the extra needed legroom.

I could not drive this car, as it was across the country. However, I did have all the records, and it was serviced at a known lotus shop in cali.
I'll check the records in a bit to see when the plugs/wires were changed. The T-belt was done 6K ago, in dec of 2002. So it should be OK.
I'm no stranger to working on cars. I had a heavily modifed Viper prior to this. A GT40 is being built at the moment as well.
...very temped to play hookie and go home to work on this sucker today.
