Few questions from new VXR owner
Discussion
Got me a 2007 quicksilver VXR. Had a 2006 5.7 before and i think the difference is very noticable, plus as it goes looks wise the 5.7 is fairly nice the VXR is jaw dropping! obviously in my opinion.
A few questions.
Why under the bonnet does it have a plate which says HSV then a date of manufacture being in 2005 and a build number 27? the log book tells me it was first registered as new in Feb 2007?
I have a squeaky belt i think which makes a bit of a high pitched noise when the engine is cold anyone else had this?
My outside air temp sensor reads between 31 and 36 all the time!!!!!
I know i can get both sorted at vauxhall but i wanted to know if it was a common thing.
Ive noticed its better on fuel than my 5.7 was as well on a run with both town and motorway cruising at 85 (private road of course)i can get about 25.5 mpg this includes a couple of full throttle runs is this normal and will it probably get better when its run in, its currently got 15,000 miles on it
thanks all

The plate says HSV cos thats who made it, Vauxhall didn't have a hand in it (which explains the complete lack of understanding from your local dealership workshop). All the LS2 VXR's have manufacturing dates around '05 as thats when they were all imported. They weren't all registered by Vauxhall until later (most were sitting in a car park in Luton). Mines the same with an 05 build on a 56 plate.Ive noticed its better on fuel than my 5.7 was as well on a run with both town and motorway cruising at 85 (private road of course)i can get about 25.5 mpg this includes a couple of full throttle runs is this normal and will it probably get better when its run in, its currently got 15,000 miles on it
After 15k miles I think its run in. I get around 19mpg combo, 25ish on a cruise (7k on the clock). Not bad really, a Mitsi Evo is worse on the wallet here (mates jokes about stopping for fuel all the time backfired slightly on a trip to LeMans this year
).Enjoy

I think actually they're all made by Holden, then HSV do the tweaks for the HSV/VXR versions. Certainly nothing to do with Vauxhall though!!
Date of manufacture has nothing to do with date of registration (when it was put on the road). No Monaro's made after 2005 I believe..
Sounds like your belt and temp sensor need sorting, (unless of course it's between 31 & 36 degrees where you live :-)
Mines actually more economical in 5th than 6th at legal speeds (04 CV8), so you may find the lower gearing of the later car is what's giving you the better consumption, more lively on acceleration too...
Nice to know your onto your second one though, (shame about the colour mind)!!

Someone's been telling you fibs. The last Monaros (VZ) were made between Sept 04 and sometime (?) in 05. There is no such thing as an 06 or 07 Monaro. Doesn't matter when it was registered. We don't have the strange dated number plates like you, mine is a late 04 VZ first reg 05 but still an 04.tim the pool man said:

Not sure what you are saying my last monaro a 5.7 was registered late 2006 and my new VXR registered 14/2/07 and the made plate says July 2005 on it? my 5.7 didnt have a made plate in it.
thanks for all the replies by the way! you guys must be waiting for newbies

Thats because only the HSV's have a plate. The holdens (cv8's) just have the usual tag somewhere else. The CV8 is a Holden, the VXR's are HSV'sthanks for all the replies by the way! you guys must be waiting for newbies

The squeaking upon start maybe be the idle tensioner or part on the Air-con drivebelt path. Only because mine had the similar
problem at start and would disapear once warmed up. Took it to my dealer (motorbodies Luton). Very helpful at diagnosis with a detailed write up. The parts are now on order totally under warranty.

Mine does that in Summer, until I take it out of the shade then it warms up to the real temp

You can go off people you know Tim the pool man....

CV8s are the connoisseur's choice, rarer too. Spend the extra money bolting on some quality bits and go VXR-slaying

I'm with you there. I've spotted a couple of VXRs on the road outside of meets, but only ever spotted one CV8. VXRs are common as muck

This has been mentioned before think a change of the temp sensor cured it (same as an omega i think) try a search it may still bring up the old thread
Welcome to our site...
Go to your local bog-standard Vauxhall dealer, hand over yer 10spot and walk out with an Omega outside temp sensor. Push-fits into a bracket lower driver's side in-front of the radiator. Sorted..
If it doesn't get fixed your actual cabin temp gets messed-up 'cos it relies on the o/s temp reading to determine if cooling or heat is required.
