Just out of interest, what's the penalty for driving a car with incorrect number plates?

It's quite serious - a LOT more serious than having no plates at all.
Might be arrested actually...

If your reg no. is for example T596 RSF but change it to T569 RSF, you just need to sound shocked and surprised when the error is pointed out......

Yeah, if it looks like an innocent mistake and none of the numbers is in the register, you may just get a caution.
But if it deliberately clones another, identical vehicle, then... 'bookem Dano'

Could be
- Failing to Keep A motor Vehicle On A Road With Registration Mark etc- minor offence, to deal with missing plates, obscured characters etc.
- Perverting the Course of Justice - if it can be proved you were out to fool the cameras etc - Possible Jail Sentence.

More fool you if you try !!

I had an MR2 in 1985 which the garage supplied new with the wrong plates. I got them changed at the first service.

If you are going to try this you are better off with plates from another country, ideally not roman scipt. Far less traceable.

Ah, just figured a new method, have an electromagnet behind the leaf and small (green) magnet on top. The electromagnet is controlled by the ignition so that when the engine is switched off, the magnet and the leaf fall off.

I think I'll give Snooper or Road Angel a phone call with my new invention....

indeed but ask for the vehicle defect scheme as opposed to accepting the ticket and I'll think you'll end up with just the cost of a 'new' plate!!

Actually not that difficult - you just have to make sure you collect all the right evidence.. the rest is for the court... that's where it all goes wrong

Charge what you like, you'll make a fortune........... but not too much as you would need to sell packs of 'leaves' or the BiB will wonder why you pick them up........

LOL excellent idea......you'd have to make sure the magnet is pretty strong as you don't want ya 'leaf' blowing off at the tun
On the other hand......the less strong the magnet, the more 'products' you would sell....in the short term anyway
Oh, and the customers would have to remember to 're-apply' the leaf each time they re-start the engine, so perhaps some sort of disclaimer would be in order here
