hmmmm. Have you checked the pressures on the back. If they're worn only in the middle sounds like they're over inflated.
Although fairly trivial as unfortunately they're not legal anymore if they're down to the wear bars.
Have my fronts to deal with at the weekend. The front nearside tyre decided to destroy its outside edge
Something funny's up with the geometry to be checked.....then a new set of fronts at £450 odd quid. yay

Something to do with removing steering components during exhaust installation?
It was looking a little suspect before hand. I've checked the camber (first suspect) which seems fine. Would be unusual for toe settings to affect just one side but getting the lot laser checked to see whats up.on my VXR got about 9000 from rears and approx 15000 out of the fronts.
Just testing a set of 4 by Khumo at the moment... to see what sort of grip/mileage/handling I get.
Grip and handling ....cant say Ive noticed the difference from the PZeros. And about half the price too.....
and yes the pz's wore in the middle on mine too

Mine always go in the middle. I do a lot of motorway driving and although I am very careful with tyre pressures after a rear blow out I only get about 10,000 from the rears and about 15,000 from the front.
As centre tyre wear is symptomatic of over inflation I have contacted HSV who have confirmed the pressure for the Pirellis. I have just put it down to Pirellis being crap tyres for wear (I have the same problems with the P Zero Neros on my Jag as well as the Rossos) but I like the rear end grip.
I have got piccies of the last old set and you can see they have gone in the middle but the edges still have a lot of tread left. If you want to see them to put your mind at rest let me know.

What pressure does HSV reccomend?

breaker, may be worth dropping a couple of psi in these tyres? are they def om the low tred bands?
madmax is the car tracking 100% straight?
Checked the tracking yesterday. Its running a degree and a half of total toe-in which is probably fractionally excessive but I wouldn't say this should cause the amount of wear just on one side. Haven't got any usuable flat space round me to string it and no-one seems to have a working 4 wheel laser setup round here so a trip to the fish may be in order to check the rear end isn't crabbing ('scuse the pun). madmax is the car tracking 100% straight?

hmm... if the whole front end is mechanically spot on, then really it can only be tracking, or something up with the wheel or tyre. prob worth the trip to get tracking checked first.
I'd suggest taking for full geometry check as there's a lot more to setting up the 'Ro than tracking.Gassing Station | HSV & Monaro | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
