Been a long while since I've posted here but I'm hoping for some good advice from current owners before I decide whether or not to delve back into Cerbera ownership.

Basically, I used to own a Speed 6 Cerb (between 2000 - 2003) before I sold up and moved over to the US early 2004. I loved the car dearly but it cost me an arm and a leg (see profile) as I had untold problems and went through 3 engines (albeit TVR sorted most of the engine issues FOC).

I've been back in the UK 18months now and my M3, whilst being a very solid car which has caused me no issues at all, is just not raising the pulse in the same way the TVR used to. So unbeleivably (and you'll undertsand why when you read my old cars history) I'm thinking about rejoining the fold.

So, my questions to you guys:
- Now TVR is bust, are you worried abut parts and repairs, baring in mind how often they go wrong.
- Whats the support network in the event of a serious problem are there issues with knowledge and long dealys in getting things sorted?
- What are the old TVR dealers doing now, I still see them trading, but what are they doing now the factory is shut?
- Those of you that have had serious issues recently, whats the turn around been on your cars (days/weeks/months?)
- Is Andy at APM still around? If not, any good independents near me worth talking too?

Also, if there are any Cerb owners that live near me, I would love to know whether or not a Cerb would be able to get down my drive (steep hill) and into the garage. It wouldn't be the end of the world to me if it cant, but it would be nice to know - PetrolTed - do you still have one, I know you live locally ! beer

Many thanks for any advice you can offer.

Looks like you had a bit of a mare with your last one mate, although im new to this scene, iv'e been advised to go for a car with engine rebuild post 2005, apparently stronger engines and alot of the problems were sorted out. Seems to me that you got a bit of a jynxed car though, especially with the crash. thats not the cars fault.
BTW how did the car stand in the crash? was he travelling fast or not?

It was definitely a jinxed car, even the TVR dealers were ashamed ! I just kept thinking it would all end soon and I'd be left with a well sorted car.

Crash wasn't bad and I wasn't injured. Basically I sat at a set of red lights at a crossroads, they went green and I went through but some other bugger coming the other way decided not to stop at their red light. I was only going 5mph, he was doing 40+ as we crossed paths and I hit the side of his card as he steamed through. Bonnet crumpled, all the Cerbs bodily fluids flooded the road, but the "cockpit" was completely undamaged.

...I wouldn't want to be in the other fella's boots though, final repair bill + 8 months car rental was nearly £40K hehe

bloody hell bandit! Sold my second one last year. The prev advice re rebuilds only applies to speed six and then is for factory rebuilds. This place has changed a lot since you were last here.

Yes, its been a while, good to see some of the old folks still around ! I'll look up Andy's e-mail if its still the same and drop him a note for some advice.

So if a V8 engine went t*ts up now, who would be able to fix it? TVR Power, or are there others capable?

I loved the S6 BTW and you're probably better off than the AJP engined Cerb's now given all the development work on the newer S6 powered TVR's. However, I'm hankering after a V8 as I'm very unhappy (especially after moving back here from California) given our current weather patterns and feel global warming needs a bit of a kick up the ar*se !

This is my first TVR experience so didnt know alot about them so wasnt too bothered what engine i ended up with, just wanted a good car, however i have gotten stuck into the research and i think iv found a good S6 so fingers crossed.

Good luck in your hunt, there are some cracking cars out there.
I do know where there is a fantastic 4.2 (I think, deffinately V8 just cant remember size) but what is your budget?? it was a bit too much for me. its Blue with Cream Leather (not sure what shade of blue, havent learned the names yet) its at Hexham Horseless Carriages, Northumberland.

You're not instilling me with warm fuzzy feelings here, I thought the V8's were a little more robust? Or were you as unlucky as me laugh

no problem, i have had a seat in the blue one and it is a really nice car, only thing i could see was a bit of cracking on the gear gator and a very very small piece of leather out of the centre arm rest bit thingy me bob. barely noticable, but im really picky so thought id mention it to you incase you are too. only reason i didnt go for it is because its out of my price range.

Cerbera = adrenaline rush, end of story. Nothing else really matters. Stop asking questions and start drivingsmile Sorry to be so flippant but at the end of the day life is too short.

Although TVR went bust, the parts and support network is as good as it was before hand.
Plenty of places that can rebuild an AJP/speed6: TVR power, Austec, Castle Race Engines, APM, and others I don't know of.
My local TVR dealer is still going, although selling another make of car alongside TVRs. But still all the parts suport.

The day I bought my Cerbera, I heard on the radio on the way to viewing it, that TVR were calling it a day. Didn't bother me then, certainly doesn't now.

Welcome back Bandit.

I've owned my 4.5 on 55,000 for 18-months. Never had a car like this before. Not got much spare cash so most repairs are DIY. For me the secrets are: the helpfullness of this group and searching the internet for the best spares at the lowest cost. As yet I have not found a single part that I could not be: sourced new, sourced second hand, repaired, remanufactured or upgraded.

The dealers, breakers and suppliers I have delt with are excellent.

In fact, today I'm starting to put together a bill-of-maretials for some of the electronic control boxes with the aim of manufacturing new ones to a higher specification than the originals.
