Can a SP6 be converted to a AJP8?
Discussion
Hi all i am very new on here and am about to make my first TVR purchase. I originally set out with only a V8 will do in mind however i have come across a SP6 which ticks every other box i was looking for and not being used to owning such a raw car i am thinking the tamer version may be the better option? (To start with) So my question is that should the SP6 let go and need money spending on it or if i get bored (which ever happens sooner) can i transplant the AJP8 engine in without major problems i.e. mounting, wiring, gearbox, suspension etc etc someone said different brakes but this SP6 has AP's all round? I eagerly await any response. Guy.
I think you'll find that the SP6 is a cracking engine and once you get to grips with the characteristics of it the last thing you will want to do is change it for an AJP8.
If it does go bang, there is no gaurentee that a AJP8 is going to last any longer.Although they are more reliable that the SP6. But there are a number of owners that have also had to rebuild there AJP engines also. So no gaurantees unfortunatley.
I dont want to start up the BORING arguement of AJP8 V SP6 but if you feel this way before you buy it might be worth hanging on for the 4.2,4.5 that ticks your boxes.
The specialist service centres like TVR power and the like seem to have pretty much found a cure for the inherent problems with the sP6 my advice would to get a good rebuild from them if you are unlucky enough to have the engine go BANG on you.
Look after the SP6 and it should reward, but the same could be said for the AJP8 also!!.
Whatever you do you will find either option very fullfilling and enormous fun.
Enjoy

Different chassis? Sounds like they are made to fit the specific engine then? Oh wel it was only a thought. I think i'll be happy if i end up with a speed six. There will be a Cerbera on my drive for christs sake! Lol! And if i ever do get (dare i say it) bored, i could always have it re-built to the Tuscan S speck i'm guessing? Dose anyone know what it can be built to produce? Did someone say they did a Red Rose Speed Six on another model?
