Touareg help please!

Thinking bout trying one of these. Pref a diesel, for a motorway 'hack' to keep miles off our other cars. Is the 2.5 diesel as gutlass as it hints that it might be. If so, does its fuel economy make up for its under power? Is the V10 a nightmare to live with re MPG?
Anything else I should consider?
