Hi Guys,

Scanning for more pearls of wisdom....

Centre-shift...OK driving

For better/worse I am lumped with a GT2 box and need the stirring spoon/mechanism and cables to fit.

Will the Getrag set-up fit... or am I better off sourcing sommat else...and if so, what?

You guys that have the factory centre-shift presumably also bought the centre console covers?

Any probs with these?

Any help/ advice gratefully received...

Cheers

Keith

Keith, I strongly recommend that you move that GT2 box on to someone else if you can, if you get stuck I may consider alleviating you of said doorstop hehe
But seriously, keep and use that box, it is the most suitable/strong variant availableyes

Does anyone know if the cabling for the shifter (996) for the GT2 box is any different from the standard 996 or Getrag box?

cheers

Keith, I don't know anything about this subject I am afraid but you could do no worse than give Andy Burrows @ GD a call on; 01949843299.

Hi Keith

Yes your GT2 box will work with the standard factory cables! I have a G96/50 in my Can-Am which uses the same case. My case is from a 996TT. I had the standard G96 Getrag box before I fitted the G96/50 and it's using the same cables.
This a pic of the new box in place with the cables. The rear support frame I had to build myself.

Hi Keith

Just installed a G96/88 GT2 box and used my original Getrag center shift and cables, all fitted in as before. I was also told that the shift should have a slightly shorter throw with this box.
I have since felt the diff. in the throw and is a lot more positive on each shift. I changed the stock 1st gear to a longer one , which now peaks at 55mph.

A question for both yourself and Dave - this box is 1 to 1 1/2 inch longer than the Getrag which pushes the side shafts off center by the same amount. Is this a problem or am I stressing for nothing ???
It all seems fine to drive and even under full load?????confused

Dave your setup looks trick in yellow .clap

coffee

I got all my engine bits from Mr Schwartz a year ago, and I asked the same question. Ideally the angle should be 90 deg, but since the angle is constantly changing vertically due to the suspension movement, an inch or so is not likely to make much of a difference to the longlevity of the UJ's I guess logically, especially as there are rather larger influences at work due to the beasts power and the likely usage its going to get!

My driveshafts are in the same postion with the new G96/50 as they were with the old G96. It's not an issue for me!
