I have come to the conclusion that the Gallardo is going to be my next car. Never really seriously considered one but after weighing things up I feel they offer an awful lot of car in relation to current values. I have started the ball rolling re "wanted ad" placed and a few calls to dealers etc.

Being fairly astute when it comes to buying cars but admitting to knowing naff all about Lamborghinis what should I be looking out for on the mechanical side. Also the two I have looked at so far seemed very well constructed but again do they have any build quality issues...rust etc.

Many thanks

Sorry not sure how to link my wanted ad in classifieds.
After I hope 2004-2006 standard Gallardo but absolutely must be manual, obviously want to get the best lowest mileage car for my dosh. I have been lucky enough to have owned a fair few nice cars inc Ferrari's and Porsche but as yet a Lambo. I have always read up on them and noticed the main concern relates to clutches and was wondering what else might I keep a keen eye open for..

There's no issue with clutches only with people who can't drive Lambo's. My business partner Andy's Gallardo has done 38,000 still on the original clutch, which includes over 20 trackdays. My Murcie did 39,000 on the original clutch with more trackdays than that. Point is you can doughnut Lambo's, do plenty of quick getaways etc but the moral is - never ever do this before the clutch is fully up..

I would suggest if you can afford to, to get the 06 spec car (that included the SE which is the 06 spec).... they have more power, better steering response, better sound (on standard exhaust)and usually come with callisto wheels. They all come with the sintered clutch as standard (E version i believe) which is an excellent clutch. Drive an 04 then drive an 06 and you will see what i mean.

I seriously cant think of anything to warn you off of on the 06 cars ... had no problems with mine in 9k miles..... not even a niggle....and I have a manual.... much more fun IMHO
