Tugging at my heart strings
Discussion
I left Cerb ownership.. must be 3 years ago now.. and have seen my old car come up for sale a couple of times since.. and once again now.
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/651347.htm
Every time I see it's available it tugs at my heart strings and temps me to take it back. (I did say that someday.. I might return to the Cerb fold)
It was a great car.. my 1st super-car (well I thought so) and I must say it was a love-hate passionate affair... as with all things "built for speed not for comfort" it was the proverbial "hot b
h".
It felt the biz to be out in it, feel it, smell it, hear it, drive it but always got the feeling that it was going to go wrong... which TBF it only did once. (snapped throttle cable).
I would say my custodianship of the car was a lot like a relationship with a high class call girl.... fan-bloody-tastic but emanently wallet empying and could leave you feeling cold and... well.... hatefull.
Anyhow.. once again it's back up for sale... and wispering in my ear that I need that TVR fix!!!
oooohhhheeeerrrrr.

Nice pics on your 'webshots' - why no 4.5 on rear badge? - I notice on your 'blog' you rebuilt to RR spec - was it a 4.5 before or 4.2 (if that's poss.?) - did you ever have it on the rollers?
Just curious ;-)
It was a 4.5 before.. and when I purchased the car it underwent a full check at Peninsula TVR. One of the faults they found was the cams were loose in the heads.. having worn the cam carriers.... so new RR heads (that's all that were available at the touch-and-go era of TVR). TVR supplied a new ECU to make it work... although not a full custom map and TBH. the one time I did get it on the rollers after the power was only 320bhp.Just curious ;-)
That was before I got my grubby mitts fully upon it... I commisioned a lot of work to bring it back up to full healthy spec... unfortunately this was about the time where the induction kits were only just out in prototype and I ended up having to get stock replacement purple pipes.. the old ones were totally crushed and shot. (partly hence power down).
In the end the only things that the car really needed was a re-map and the induction system swapping to the short induction type. (oh.. and also the last job I wanted but never got completed was the exhaust manifolds.. again these were only just coming available from ACT when I sold the car)
All the cooling, electrical, etc... was overhauled and replaced with top qiality parts. New tyres...bla..bla..bla.
Was a really LOUD Cerb with sports pipes, de-cats and produced a lot of flames (Cats were with the car and fully function when I sold it)..
Ask Madmark.. he followed me through a tunnel once and he could not hear his own Cerb and was supprised about the flames!
In the end I PX'd it for a Morgan Aero 8.. which I still have now.

Looks beautfiful!
That is quite true.. it's a perl colour and it's like looking into the ocean... green with a slight blue tint in the light.. really stunning.
The interior was also really clean given it's partly magnolia. Assuming that the interim owners also lavished as much attention on her she should be in stunning condition.

. Offord is just up the road from me, I know Simon quite well. Not sure where you are based, shall I go and have a quick look for you?
Or will you just pop up there yourself - perhaps?

cerealsurfer - I'm tempted to give your old girl a good home (off to Offords on Thursday).
Being a gentleman I would of couse offer you first dibs on getting her back if your interested (I too have had a previous 3 year affair with a Cerb so I know how your feeling!) - let me know before I drive all the way up there Thursday AM though!
I read your blog and the engine work was interesting. If I was to buy your old car, should I be worried about being able to get it fixed should something go wrong with it again? (i.e. custom made ECU !).
Cheers

You are welcome to make an offer... although you'd have to give it a good home just in case I want it back after you are done. As for the ECU.. nothing that you can't replace or work with.. it's only a slightly adjusted map to get the engine running. Other than that it's a stock unit.. same housing, same software etc.. You never know one of the other owners since has had it re-mapped therefore pretty imaterial.
You must let me know what you think and what if any issues you find.. should be pretty up together though.
oohhh.. forgot.. take plenty of pics.
I still have the info folder that I didn't give the dealer (Castles) ...
One of the Thames Valley Racetech Invoices for some of the work
Just found an old list of the Rolling Road Results - not 320bhp.. but 355bhp and 330lbs of Torque (no graph though)
The original Purchase Reciept from Riverside Sports Cars
The Peninsula Report on the car
The Car description sign from when it was on show at Beaulieu
A reciept for something from TVR Power
The Alarm official statement from Peninsula - so you can get the insurance sorted
Oh and a TVR Cerbera Factory workshop manual in TVR folder.
With the car should be the rest of the history file as well as the Power Graphs.

Looks like there was some other minor engine trouble (Barings) in 2007 then the rest was fairly standard work - clutch , diff, exhaust etc. I'm going to take a good look through all the paperwork on Thursday.
Was there any reason to think once you had the engine work done that the problem could reoccur or was it almost a completely new engine?
