If I buy a kit car which is on a Q-plate, which parts would I need to change to get a 'proper' registration? Does anyone know if you can put a private reg on a Q-plated car?

Cheers!

All of them!

You can't change a Q plate unfortunately.

Rodger's right - you'd have to change the car.

No ifs or buts; it can't be done.

Thanks chaps. I take it the private reg is a no-go too?

Sorry guys but you can change from a Q plate if you CAN prove the car's origins. My old speedster replica was on a Q before I got it and the previous owner just showed a letter from VW confirming the origins and year of the chassis and it got an age related number assigned to it...

Was that before SVA was introduced?

In practice, though, virtually all q reg cars have bits from a number of sources, and therefore would not qualify for a registration change.

That sounds like a wrongly assigned Q plate rectification. I assume the speedster is based on a VW beetle pan? If so that would probably classify as a rebody rather than a full blown kit.
