PS2 yesterday (the 'new' small shape one).

I am always years out of date on computers and this is my second ever console.

Quite a nice machine...What is the best game in each genre to go for?

Racing
Shoot 'em' up
Platform
Puzzle

This type of thing.

BTW: I dont care what people say about car boot sales. It cost me £40 with 15 games! (OK some were for the PS1 but what the hell!).

And can I browse the internetwork with it as I noticed an Ethernet cable.

thats the shooters done

for the racing there has to be only one . . . GT4

You can get games OTHER than Gran Turismo for the PS2 and 3...?

The Jak and Daxter series were damn good platformers. If your looking for something a bit different Ico or Shadow of the colossus are worth a punt, also God of war is a good action game.

For a shoot 'em up game - Black ? Timesplitters ?

Racing is GT4 especially if you like to fiddle about with car settings although I also played the TOCA series.

dunno about the rest - only interested in driving like a hooligan & blasting things with a 12 bore....

Another vote for GT4 here!

I also had Lotus Challenge, I picked that up new for about £10 a couple of years ago, would be worth having a look about for a copy of that, great game!

So:
GT4
Metal Gear Solid
GTA3 - Did not know you could get this on PS2. Love this game.
God of War
tourist trophy - Worth a look

What are the USB ports used for? Keyboard? Mouse?

Apart from playing games, what else can I do with it?

Watch DVDs...

Wouldn't bother with GTA3 unless you're going to get Vice City and San Andreas too (there is a triple boxset out there) as they are both better games.

Plus make sure you get MGS3 as it's both better than MGS2 and will make much more sense as it's a prequel and won't require intensive inside knowledge in order to enjoy it.

The TOCA games are great for racing (better than GTA in some ways!!), the Hitman Series are good for Shoot-Em up/Tactics and 24 is a must have IMHO.
