I tried to make it look like I was cooler for watching porn but every sincere post about the actual TV programme weakens my standpoint and makes me look like aw@nker idiot.

bloody pointless. £3million for a bridge less than a hundred yards from an existing bridge, linking a main road to a few poxy terraces. excellent planning.
That was not it's soul aim.bloody pointless. £3million for a bridge less than a hundred yards from an existing bridge, linking a main road to a few poxy terraces. excellent planning.

The regeneration of the water frontage is vital and try walking across the road bridge.
You take your life in your hands

Cas deserves the funds and it's right to be improved.
Monies have gone to the other 4 towns in regen but they have been by-passed in comparison.
And NO, I'm not from the area but have been an investor because it ain't all as bad as painted!
Yeah I wondered at the thought-process of the land owners pricing. Odd that.
The original road bridge did look dangerous to pedestrians. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
I also note that neither Google nor Microsoft have the bridge in their maps. Microsoft doesn't even have the houses in the new development - the ones whose owners didn't want the bridge in the original location.

the road bridge is paved on each side. traffic can't hoon over it as its a blind summit with a roundabout at one end and a petrol station/bus stop on the other. its hardly taking your life in your hands, though i suppose seeing its mainly drunks and old duffers round that way you may have a point.
being from the general area, i don't mind labelling 'cas' as a complete hole. its admirable they are trying to develop it but the programme very much reminded me of the old adage "you can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter".
very little of the town was shown in the programme. it is a largely deprived market town with little in the way of employment, left largely to decline for decades despite being within spitting distance of the A1/M1/M62. perhaps the only decent thing to happen to it in years - the development of one of the old mineheads into a leisure/retail park - wasn't even mentioned.
the surrounding has attracted investment as you mention, but its hardly come thick and fast. the nearby 'millenium village' project is not even completed yet, 8yrs after it was due to be inhabited...
seemed pretty laughable to me that the problems of a deprived area could be solved by that bridge. i generally like kevin mcloud but i just can't see any point in the project shown. it just seemed to me that the council weren' that interested but were possibly persuaded to massively extend the budget merely for the prospect of some primetime C4 publicity.

isn't it a 5 step/phase regeneration plan?the surrounding has attracted investment as you mention, but its hardly come thick and fast. the nearby 'millenium village' project is not even completed yet, 8yrs after it was due to be inhabited...

well i hope the next ones are a little more ambitious!
don't know tbh. trying to find some kind of overview/outline scheme on the tinterweb but no joy so far.
would be interested to see what the full plan is. certainly there is plenty to play with [i.e. lots to knock down and start again!] but you hit the greenbelt pretty quickly on the other side of the river, and have the shadow of the chemical works to contend with if they want upmarket residential use.
i'd welcome a coherent scheme if there is one, but i fear its going to be silly amounts of money spent on isolated pockets throughout the area. if thats the case then its destined to fail imo.
