I know I have moaned about the new classifieds, but it is starting to get irritating.

Can someone go to the BMW 3 series section and search for "320d touring" and see what results you get???

And then search for "330d touring".

How many did it find?

If I search for "330d touring" I get this result....

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/570558.htm

If I search for "320d touring"

I get theses two....

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/647154.htm

and

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/656833.htm

But just go through the 150 pages of cars and there are hundreds.

I know it doesn't work as my own 320d touring is in there and I can only find that by manually going through the pages.

The search matches the exact phrase in the box, so "320d touring" will not find adverts with a title such as "320d SE Touring"

I can't find your 320d advert in my admin pages, only your 325i advert but if you send me a link to it then I will be able to let you know why it is not being found.

We are aware that the search needs improving and it is on the list of things to do, but I should be able to help you make the most of the tools we have at the moment

I have now deleted my advert for the 320d anyway.

The classifieds just don't work as they are, which is a real shame as they were always my first port of call when looking for a car for someone.

Being able to search for the latest additions was good when looking for a bargain and being able to search for what you want was the most important feature.
There are 1865 3 series on that list and 26 pages from 2005 onwards, the search should be changed so as long as the search string is in the title somewhere it returns a hit, everyone lists things differently so the way it is at the moment just doesn't work. frown

We haven't changed the search function which is probably the problem. The change to the volume of adverts now in the classifieds section (especially BMW 3 series) is causing the problems and we were are working on alternative and better methods for car searches... we hope to have some improvements over the next two months.
