Morning!

I've been working on my new website for the last couple of months and it's nearing completion. I'd appreciate any comments on the ease of use, navigation and of course the images! I'm getting quite a bit of positive feedback on the landscapes.
There are a few little bits and bobs left now, a blog plus a few other changes but essentially it's ready to go. I'd also appreciate thoughts on the number of images in a section, I have seen sites that get overwhelming because there are just too many to choose from, at the moment I'm sticking with around 30 images in each section with the idea of changing the whole lot every few weeks and rotating it all around to keep it fresh, I have a good 1000 images of the same sort of quality.
Anyway, I'm rambling! Any comments and constructive criticism would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Mat.

Yeah really easy to navigate and not many menus to wade through.

Really like the photos too.

Only thing Id say.. with the black border and 'moody sky' photo the home page is maybe a little dark?
If it were me Id use something like the first shot in the landscape section.

Other than that its a nice site.. easy to use and some really nice photography..

Looks good Mat - did you not have a wicked pic of the borealis or something similar from you (seem to remember it previously), don't see it on the site frown

Thanks for the comments guys, furtive, what browser are you using? I have checked it with the main ones and not had an issue up to now, let me know and I will check it out.
I'm glad you are finding the navigation simple, I think it's the key with a lot of sites, I for one click off if I can't see what I want within a couple of clicks!
I see what you are saying about the home page being dark, it was a conscious decision but that doesn't mean it was the right decision! I'll look into it again.
Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to reply, much appreciated!

Mat.

PS. Yep, I have loads of aurora pics but haven't put any up, didn't think they'd be all that salable but happy to add some.

Very impressive, its lovely and simple concentrating on the images rather than having a fancy looking web site. Works really well, and some of the your photos are fantastic.

Really nice, my suggestion would be to use a more interesting font on the categories, i would highly recommend hypatia sans pro.

Works for me (Firefox 3).
And me. Where it reveals "piece of mind", where I think you mean "peace of mind".

I'm using FF3 as well. Very odd. Just tried it in IE7 and it doesn't work there either. Might be my corporate build doing something iffy if it works for everyone else

Site is great and modern. Pictures are great.

Can the scroll bar to view the pictures be a bit more exciting? Seem it's been left out of the rest of the design.

pictures way too big, also not a fan at all of the frame used then having to use a left right slider to see more

eg http://www.matrichardson-photography.co.uk//proces...

What screen res did you build for? Most browsers now being 1024x768 or even 800x600

But virtually no-one would see it unless the text was displayed as images or he used Flash font replacement. Anyway, I digress.

Nice clean site, but not sure I like the horizontal scrolling to see the images. It's quite counter-intuitive as most people are used to sites which are specifically designed not to have horizontal scrolling.

Thanks very much for all the comments, great to hear lots of positives.
It has been a very conscious decision to have everything scrolling left, I really liked the idea of being different in that way, no up and down scrolling, everything fitting neatly in a frame. It's obviously not going to be to everyones taste but it's enough to prompt a reaction!
I hear what you are saying about the text, I will try some others although the choice I made was purely to keep things simple and let the images do the talking.
I didn't build the site myself, it was my cousin who did it and he has tried very hard to optimize the view on as many screens as possible, I have a 17" mac book pro and it obviously looks great on there, we have tried to mirror that on all screens, maybe not 100% successful but will get there. We are looking at the stats for the site constantly and trying to optimize for the majority.
Anyway, like I said, really great to get feedback, good or bad, will keep making changes to make it pleasing to as many as possible.

Thanks again!
Mat

ok i can understand your wanting to be different and I can understand your point of reaction but as a browser it instantly turned me off looking any further into the site.

You could argue I'm a fuddy duddy stick in the mud but I would argue things are done a certain way for good reason. Even on my laptop which is a stupid high res the image sizes are big and the scrolling annoying (I doubt I'm the only one that will say it)

Change can be good, I'm all for it but sorry to be a sour grape the left right scroll doesnt work its just put me right off
