Does anyone know if there are any banks or building societies that allow telephone or internet banking for a club?

The main thing I need to access are bank balances (dual payment authorisation would be great too, although not essential).

Background waffle....
The club I am doing the accounts for uses NatWest. They don't allow phone or net banking, which is proving a nightmare for me as I can't get to a bank during 'race season' unless I take time off work. So receiving a statement once a month is far from ideal, especially as I don't have full control of cashflow.

Are you sure NW do not offer this service. My Operativ/Musical Society has had to change banks recently and we have moved to NW - and Internet Banking WAS offered to us.

Speak to them again.

Eric,

I thought they did internet banking too as the website mentions it.

When I went to the NW branch a month or so ago, I was told that this could not be done and that another bank may do this.

I will give NatWest another go (not at the branch).

Thank you.

The problem may be with the rules of your club - if there is a limit to what one signatory can do on the accounts then the internet/phone banking infrastructure of the Bank may not be set up to do this. They may just have a simple one or two signatory option that doesn't distinguish. If you have two signatories for withdrawals then by definition internet/telephone banking will cause a problem as the Bank can only be sure that one signatory is present.

We didn't go for the Internet Banking option for that reason. Our society rules require two signatories to authorise payments.

It just shows that the rush to e-banking cannot take into account more complex set-ups.

Shame, as they do a good job of online banking on the Corporate side.

Interesting. A club I am a signatory too banks with Nat West, we need two signatures on cheques but the Treasurer can do internet banking including paying bills!

Mind you another club I am a signatory of requires two signatures. A new checque book got stolen on route to us and was used to cash 2 cheques for £500 each, which were sufficient to send us overdrawn although Nat West helpfully transferred money from our deposit account to coover it. It turned out that the single signature on the cheque was nothing like one of the genuinue ones!

Why can't you open a business account in the name of the club?

May not be an option. Banks will look on a club or society is a different way to a business.

They also have different products and accounts available if the club or society is a registered charity.
