Audi RS6 Saloon

Audi unveils its RS6 saloon and it's (a little bit) quicker

We thought we might have to wait until the Paris Motor Show to see Audi's RS6 saloon but the company has decided to give us some photos beforehand. Those of you who predicted it would look exactly the same as the Avant but with a boot, I can confirm you were correct.

The big news however is that it is faster than the estate version which was unveiled at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show. OK, so it's 0.1 of a second quicker to 62mph (4.5 compared to 4.6) but that all counts when it comes to pub bragging rights.

There is the same twin-turbocharged 5.0-litre V10 engine that delivers an output of 572bhp between 6,250 and 6,700 rpm and a peak torque of 479.42 lb ft available from 1,500 to 6,250 rpm. Top speed is limited to 155mph but this can be raised to 174mph as an option.

As with the RS6 Avant, the saloon also gets a reworked suspension and standard Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) that reduces pitch and roll. Combine this with the sports suspension plus and DRC offers three selectable damper settings – sport, dynamic and comfort – which can be activated through the MMI.

Stopping power is provided by 390mm brake disks up front and 365mm brake disks at the rear. The car' is set to be launched in Germany around mid-October and will cost €105,550.

I saw an Avant RS6 on Sunday traveling north on the M1, lovely car but just seemed to lack the presence of the old RS6. Not sure if its because there are so many S-line rep specials out there that it didn't stand out enough or possibly the colour (black). I have read somewhere that colour effects the extent at which the blistered arches stand out so could be this.
Still looked nice though

I still think the wheel arches need to be a little wider. I'm sure it doesn't look as meaty as the old one did in it's day.

Yeah but the real question is this: from a 20mph rolling start, can it out drag a chipped 335d?

The real question is - Who cares? Where do I sign up? Think I'd still have the estate though - or the MTM version!!!

This thing would be the ultimate dream machine for a quick blast through Europea on those gorgeous pool-table smooth French and German autoroute/bahns.

With the dirt tracks, pot holes and speed bumps of our beloved HIghways Agency in the UK I would fear for the safety of my spinal cord.

I don't think it would really matter, the rs6's main contender from bmw is the m5. A 3 series derv isn't what audi are trying to beat. Don't get me wrong, a chipped 335d can definitely move alright as my mate found out in his Z3m. It has 321bhp and the derv got away from him. I don't think it would keep up with the rs6 though. I know its a big wagon but 572 bhp has got to launch it from any speed.

shame the car wouldn't "glow" blue like that one seems to do in the photos. i don't like the back end, i do like the front arches and the front seats.

Don't we all!
Anorak fact: those must be the new rear-lights that all (face-lifted) A6s are due to get for the new model year?
