Hi All,

Just wondered if any of you could offer some advice as I'm trying to sell my car (baby coming in Nov).

I've put the car up in Pheads for 4 weeks but haven't had any luck. Just re-listed today and reduced the price - hopefully, this may help, but any advice would be apprecaited.

Here it is: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/659732.htm

Is it something to do with the spec/colour/mileage/price? I spoke with 3 main dealers and they think its just the economy we're in. The Elise I had before (similar spec) sold within 1 week. Not sure what's going on...

Cheers

price seems about right, but its still a £24K used car to sell privately.

When there are so many in dealers, and Joe Bloggs can walk in with a trade-in and get low rate finance its kmuch more appealing for that type of buyer.

Used cars that are sub £15K still seem to be moving pretty quick with cash (or loan) buyers, once you are into the 20's I think most new buyers will be looking for dealer facilities

so that leaves you with keep it and leave it up there longer in the hope that someone with cash, really wants yours, or sell it cheaper so people think they are getting more of a bargain with yours.

Thanks for the reply Bogie ...

am tempted just to keep it a bit longer and get my money's worth. It's the just the sensible part of my brain is telling me otherwise! Shame as I adore this car.

The problem is that there aren't many people who would be willing to hand over 24 grand in cash for a private sale.

It is very well priced IMO considering all the options it has. Which again limits your market. Probably only a small percent of elise buyers want the sport pack for instance.

If a dealer had a car of that spec for that price I would buy it tomorrow.

If you don't have to sell it, and you can use it, keep it. I'm selling up because I'm just not using mine, and I could use a more practical car right now. Mine's half the cost of yours though. Am glad I got rid of my Honda'd car back in Feb when people had more cash to splash. I'd have lost another £2-3k if I still had it now I reckon.

hey ... it's £23k car (not £24k) if that makes any difference! hehe .. for a serious buyer of course wink

Thanks for your input guys - may have to keep it a bit longer if it continues like this, but we'll see how it goes. By all means, please feel to spread the word if you know of anyone who might be interested.

Stu - why swap, when you could just buy it!

NathanE - I know what you mean about a limited market. I admittedly was very specific about what I wanted hence the purchase. This car doesn't have a sport pack btw, its just the same wheels and T/C. Just out of interest, why would a car from a dealer be more desirable? if this car came with a 1 yr Lotus warranty (although still has until March '09) and had an official Lotus dealer inspection report, would this entice you?
