Hi all, I'm changing my dash etc for the retrim and I want to disconnect the temp gauge wire from the guage so I can remove the instrument cluster? the pressure bit just unplugs but the coiled sender wire for temp is attached somehow to the gauge. Do you have to unplug it in the engine bay and feed it through the bulkhead etc?

Cheers,
Andy

Are you sure you want to do this !!! It attaches in the front of the engine bay to a water pipe. It is likely to break and you will need to get it fixed or buy a new (digital !!) reader.

Or you could go the easy route....

Cut the top of the dash plate your fitting vertically on the top hole. Bend apart slightly whilst inserting said tube. Job done.

Exaactly what I did. it turns an expensive all day job, into an easy 30 minute Job. Just cut a small slit with a fine hacksaw, you can't even see it when you are sat in the car. You can see where to make the cut in this foto...

mine is leaking slightly at the connection to the engine. I will unscrew it, clean it up and put it back in and hope it stops the leak but if that fails how much are we talking for a new sensor with cable and bolt fixing? because when i looked at it up on the ramps yesterday (vision was poor) is appeared that the bolt fixing holding it may have been rounded so i may have to bin it and buy a new one or fit an infared one.

how much are the infa-red sensors that im reading about? how do they fit and what guage is used then? cheers
