hi,

putting the wedge back on the road after 2 + years in storage , when i put her away she had a couple or three things wrong with it and the first is the power steering rack, i have aq leak where the steering arm goes into the rack

can a repair be done with out taking the rack out and if so where can i get a new seal from.

it can be repaired but, will probably need the arm rechroming, new seals, and it could also be worn internally, this is what is wrong with mine, very expensive. i am in the process of adapting a different sd1 rack to fit wedges, these can be bought from rimmer bros, but need a couple of alterations to work.

the car is a 1987 350i and i don't no what make the rack is as to start looking at getting a spare seal,

what sort of cost would a garage put on something like this to repair.

What is the SD1 rack ratio - the Supra rack is only 2.25 turns full lock to lock. I think the Sd1 power rack was more than 3 turns L to L similar to non power racks.

suprs modified the racks for tvr, not sure on the turns but the track control arms are shorter than standard sd1 arms.

I'm considering having the power steering rack rebuilt and have had a price off £229.00 + vat
and for that i getting a complete rebuild and two years warranty and all post is included.

What do you all think of the price,

if any one is interested i can post a link to there web site,

or has anyone got a link to a better price.

Just got my MOT without any advisories (4th yr running) so i'm Ok now but pls post a link - worth having on record you never know when you might need it.
