Hi Folks,

I'm Just finishing off the Wedge, I can't find my bible and need the torque settings for the rear hub nuts, I think there around 215lb/Ft (but don't trust my memory!). Can any of you guru's help me please, theres a beer or three on offer if your a Tatton this weekend.

From memory...230lbs....speaking as one who once lost a wheel through a loose one.cry

Last time I had them checked, Kwikfit manager did it free...just wanted his photo taken with the car. biggrin

Thanks Graham,

My passenger side was also 'loose' at the stripdown, I say 'loose' as in 1994 I made castelated(Sp) nuts with just one hole on the drive shaft. The split pin was tight on the removal, the nut had turned until it was tight on the split pin. Saved the bearing, being overtaken by a rear wheel/hub and a red face.

Regards,

Chris.

It was a little disconcerting at 90mph, but I can tell you that 400SEs are very stable with a rear wheel missing. hehe

I am just doing my morning Bible reading and confirm it says 230ft/lb -

Make sure you use new nylocks and check torque after a couple of hundred miles. The inner race is solid so no adjustment but mine seamed to settle after initial driving but no movement since.
I am trying to find something called torque lock or something like that. A visible indicator that a nut has moved. You put a blob on the nut/thread after it is torqued up and it is then visible if the nut has moved. Some of the racers use it on suspension bolts etc.
Saves keep getting the old wrench out.

See you at Tatton - I am there Sat.

Paint/Tipp-Ex/nail varnish etc. Basically anything that you can paint across the joint between nut and thread that will crack and show movement. You can even scribe a line but it gets confusing with subsequent rebuilds.

All back together now, went out to try it tonight and embarrassed a skunk striped whistling popping 08 Focus ST blah blah blah, not so bad for a 26 year old V6 wedge.

Yes, but didn't compare to somersaulting my Lotus 7, 3 times end over end at a mere 70. yikes
