I think I've jinxed myself by telling folk that it's possible to have a reliable, evreyday TVR!

About 2 or 3 weeks ago during the drive to and from work (about 12 miles each way - light/moderate traffic) the temperature started getting higher than usual. Normally it would be at around 190-195. I could thrash it all day long and it wouldn't get any higher. Now by the time I get to work (or home)it is a fraction below 210. It doesn't seem to drop when moving either, just stays there. I have a fan override and it makes no difference if I leave it on all the time. There are no leaks and the radiator is full and has antifreeze in it, same as always.

There is also a sound that comes from the vents in the dashboard. It's a hard to describe sound, kind of like a squeaky, hissy sound. In my mind it sounds like pressurised air coming from leaks in a hose. It's done it since I've had it and I've never had any problems before. It only happens every now and again and isn't linked to anything that I do, just randomly.

And then today on the way home, pulling away from the lights I heard a repetitive squeaking sound from the offside rear wheel. It makes the noise with every revolution of the wheel and at more than a few mph it goes away (or happens too quickly to make out/drowned out with exhaust). It sounds just like someone jumping up and down on an old spring matress.

I'll take a look at it and see if I can see any obvious reason for the problems on Saturday, just wondering if anyone could give me a head start...any help greatly appreciated.

What happens when you switch the heater on? Does it blow hot air? Does the temperature drop?

Is the radiator blocked at all (eg. plastic bag)?

Do the fan(s) spin freely and with no sign of knackered bearings? Do they operate when they should?

As for the squeaking/hissing, could be sticky bearing on the heater blower. Had that before.

Last bit could be the U/J's? Grease them up and does it go away? Not always a cure mind.

The squeeking could be some dirt in between the brake pad and disc. Try reversing with your foot lightly on the brakes. This sometimes removes it. Failing that you will need to clean up the pads. The hissing sound could be one of the air vents being only very slightly open. The air rushes in (well rushes as much as it ever does with a Wedge heating system)and whistles as it passes the flap. As far as the tmperature is concerned, radiator blockage is possible, as previously suggested, or perhaps just a failing temperature sender or gauge. Are there any other symptoms - does it pink?

Temperature problem could be a sticky thermostat.
