T350 Boot Release

Having a spot of bother with the boot release at the moment.
The Mrs brought the car home at the weekend and was complaining that the boot release wouldn't work. It had been intermittent for a while but was now not working at all. I stripped everything down and checked the mechanism, the microswitch that lets the alarm know the boot is shut and finally double checked the solenoid. It appeared as though the solenoid had gone tits-up so I ordered a new one from Racing Green. The new solenoid arrived last night so I fitted it and it worked for all of two minutes before going dead. Now, i've checked that the plug is delivering the correct voltage and all seems okay. It sits at about 3v when the button is open and spikes to 12v when you push it, so I think it's operating as it should. When i reconnect the plug and press the button, nothing happens! If I put my ear to the solenoid whilst pressing the button, you can hear it clicking; it's almost as though there's not enough current. I've tested the solenoid with a 9v battery and it's working fine. I know that the doors are controlled by ECUs, but the big question is; is the boot ECU controlled as well and if so, where is it?! I should also mention that I've checked the fuse that feeds the boot (Fuse 11 if memory serves) and it's the same one that feeds the cigar lighter (also checked this with my multimeter and it's working fine).
