Got a new job as a train driver!
Discussion
After being on the waiting list for 2 years I finally have a position with Arriva trains Wales based at my home station of Shrewsbury only a mile's walk from home. Taking a 50% pay cut for the first 9 months training but reckon I'll break even within 4 years, plus it'll be a dam sight more interesting than what I've been doing for the last 6 years.
Going to be in charge of these babies eventually:

Any other train drivers on here?

I'm not one, but I fancy it when I finish with my current career. No idea how much it pays though? If you feel like sharing, I'd be interested to know (PM?), but won't be offended if not.
Not at all, if people are interested then it doesn't feel vulgar, it's all information that's available on the net anyway: start on £17,561 for the first 9 months, then once I'm driving on my own it goes to £27,344, then once my probation finishes (2 years from first start date) it goes to £32,169On top of this I get unlimited free travel on Arriva trains and buses (yey) for me and the missus, final salary pension and a super smart uniform!
I remember those trains well, used to go up and down the North Wales coast to and from Uni. I don't envy you, judging by how often trains are delayed on my commute in and out of London because of a fatality on the line someone is going to jump in front of you at some point. Not fun. Although getting to play with a real life Hornby train set would be pretty cool

Congratulations.
What were you doing before?
Been with Network Rail as a signalman for the last 6 years. Not a bad job but prospects round here are a case of "dead man's shoes"
