hi all, is it possible for me to have a highline computer fitted into my mk5 golf. Would really love it and if so, how much? Second point is the gear changes. There jerky unless i rev above 3000rpm then its smooth. Below 3000rpm it brings the revs up a bit more by itself, causing it to jerk. Any ideas on this?

I have the golf brochure and cannot see it as an option. It might be just standard on some models i.e GTI/R32

Hi mate,

The highline computer is an optional extra at new, £45 quid, no brainer really, but unfortunalty either some people are not aware of it or really dont care about it. Shame, for if your like me and buy second hand and dont have this option.

I have read before that the instrument cluster and some other bits and pieces need to be changed, so the 45 quid option at new very quickly becomes an expensive retrofit.

Never really understood why this was a £45 option.

It's good to have but certainly not worth retrofitting.

ye i do want it retro-fitted. i dont see why someone would not pay for it. amazing piece of kit. Do any of you guys know about this gear change? It really loves to give some extra boost (kickback of revs) below 3000 revs when i just dont want it because it just becomes really jerky at low speeds

So what does it do? Possibly, I've missed a trick but really what does it do?

Just got a new GTi, the TVR S didn't even have a trip, the Astra no mpg display, so the mpg display looked good enough. Okay I'd prefer there to be a mode between [1]trip mpg and [2]life of car mpg. Say, you know, tankful mpg. The VW literature just said how much - oh and you need a new steering wheel with buttons to make it work, but no hint of the benefits, just extra £££ here and there. Guys on the GTI forum talk about VAG.COM and setting the delay on the windows opening or some such. Can't be bothered with that - even hated the SPORT button on the new Astra's. The GTi is an expensive hatchback, so I specified the GTI in red with an arm rest and two extra doors wink I still have a TVR for when there is just two of us!

In addiion to the advanced display it allows you to change settings that normally require VAG.com to do so.

You can reset either whenever you like (e.g. when you fill up).
Having read the handbook, I now wonder whether I should have shelled out the extra money for the Highline option. As some have already mentioned, it can apparently control functions you'd normally need a dealer or vag.com for:
- whether a single "plip" unlocks all doors, or only the driver's
- automatic door locking on/off
- whether the mirror adjusters work in tandem or independently
- option for passenger door mirror to swivel down to show kerb when in reverse
- "follow me" lighting delay
None of this seems to be mentioned in the sales literature....

I think somebody with a VAGCOM [diagnostic tool] can turn this option on for you
