Running a little rough, running rich on one bank, decided to have the injectors cleaned just in case.

Boxer Motor Works called today with the results. Turns out seven one of injectors are flowing 84ml during a 30sec pulsed test. One is flowing 89ml. The high flowing injector looks identical but actually has a different part number. The chap doing the testing thought the injectors were a Chinese copy of a Lucas disc injector design. A 1min full flow test will give the actual flow rate so an alternative can be sourced .

Anyone know what the flow rate of a 97 AJP 4.5 injector should be?

Looks like this engine has been running with one rich cylinder since it was built.

I haven't got them back yet but yes it does have a part number. I've searched on Google but these were no matches.

Can you be sure it was like that from the factory and not fitted by a well meaning mechanic or owner ?

Looks like factory to me. They are definitely from the same manufacturer, just one of the eight is a slightly different part number. If they are chinese copies of the Lucas design, I'm guessing chinese manufacturing quality control 15 years ago would have easily let a rouge product through.

Any figures on the max design flow rate of the 4.5 injectors?

Good thread this. I was looking for a place that can check my injectors, thats not 300 miles away ooop north.
Apart from the rogue injector, have you been happy with the service from Boxer MC?

Cheers

Spot on. Take a look at their website to see what they do during the service. Takes three days. What I like is you get a before and after report on the injector performance. Also, when they spotted the rouge injector they called, explained the problem, ran some more detailed tests and are using the data to try and source the correct replacement. They explained that because one injector was too large, one bank would be running rich so the ECU would be trying to compensate by leaning off all the injectors on that side. Recipe for one big fuelling mess if you ask me.

Interestingly, under the grime, the rougue injector also had a blue band so it should have been spotted.

I want to know the correct max flow rate to make sure the single injector is the rouge, knowing TVR it could be the other seven that are wrong!
