Since owning my Merlot I have only once used the roof - and that was after picking her up and doing 100 motorway miles home.

Since then, the sun has shined every time she has been out so no need for the roof. I even managed over 1,000 miles in France without having to use the roof at all - only going through one rainstorm.

Anyhow. Needed to go out today in the 5 and it was raining. Spent a while putting the roof up as I'm not used to it so wanted to make sure it was on properly. About 15 minutes into the trip at 75mph *BAM* the roof comes off! Quite a noise!

Pulled over as soon as I could (after having to regain control of the car as it started fishtailing due to me swerving into Lane 1 thinking something had hit me!) and luckily the roof is undamaged.

Not sure how it happened as I'm positive I secured the roof correctly and it is less than a year old.

Has this happened to anyone? It almost gave me a coronary!

never had my rooof come down in its own , what state are the latches in ? if they are worn then i suppose a bit of movement could dislodge them .

If you don't latch them properly this can happen particuarly on a tight hood (like raising it at on a cold day).

If you look at the roof from the outside its obvious if they are on correctly or not.
