suprised you haven't had any responses but that's because we're few and far between, us Spyder owners;)

that budget should certainly get you a good one. I have a 2003 GT (not the cambiocorsa). I think you need to try both.....I did and decided I was willing to wait for a good manual in the colour combo I wanted. Having done that (over a year) I found one very near me.

I have done about 5k in the last 12 months including a 2725.3 mile nerd trip over two weeks to the Italian Lakes and Sant Agata/Maranello. It performed perfectly but now has 18k on the clock! Not a thing went wrong.

I'm determined to cosset it with all the tlc it needs so I have a fund on standby accepting that things might go wrong....aside from two new tyres, so far, nothing has.

18k service just now from a specialist indie cost £850 as opposed to 1200 (I think) from AD.

Fuel, averaging about 17/18mpg but can see it down to single figures (over the Stelvio!) and at best up to around 21/22.

It's understated but undeniably stunning and with a Quicksilver exhaust on (which I did - considered Tubi as well) it sounds blissful.

If you have any specific questions feel free to pm me. Might also be worth looking on the Maserati UK site....

i bought mine last year and this is what i learned in the process:

late 2003 models have the glass screen and suffer less from scuttle shake.
pricing seems to be similar to ferraris in that mileage and condition is a big factor versus age
they are pretty well built, good quality interior. in a year mine has had nothing go wrong.
colour choice is important for resale, though they look good in any colour. I went for silver with bordeaux which is a stunning and cheery combination and tho its just before the late 03 glass screen model, was in such good condition that i bought it there and then.
Manual vs cambiocorsa (f1 paddleshift) - manual rarer, most were CC. CC box is pretty good.

General observations - it drives like a softer 355/360 - similar engine characteristics (engine is 360 variant), high revving. Gets good attention always but doesnt get the amount of attention that a ferrari does. Sounds great in sports mode with roof down. I have standard exhaust as i live in central london and dont think my neighbours would appreciate the noise of a tubi etc.

They are much rarer than the coupes and much less choice around. Seem to keep their value better but there is a good variance in pricing.
For last service i used lancaster who collect/deliver and it was around 700 i think for service.

I really like mine, i bought it as i wanted something relatively inexpensive circa 30k which still has big character. My previous car was an sl55 merc which whilst dynamically superior leaves you cold by comparison.

I fancy upgrading to a grantourismo but otherwise keeping mine. This is my 4th maser. Hope this helps some

I have a 2004 GT which took me forever to find as well. How about that 2 replies and they are both manuals which trust me when you start looking you'll see are not exactly common.

I've done a lot more mileage in mine smile I'm also running a thread here: http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=513... which is worth a read.

i agree on the forever to find bit. saw a couple of cars that were shabby but most i discounted on grounds of mileage anyhow. Main dealers dont sell them anymore as a rule with the exception maybe of the gransport spyder which there can only be a handful of.

could be. coupe/spyder came out 2001 so i assumed it was 360 based as that started 1999. Whichever its based on, is its a high revving rather than low down torque kind of car

The 430 engine I believe is actually a derivative of the Maser 4200 engine, or better said, the block since I think it is quite different in most other aspects. A different piston set-up, and not bore, accounts for the difference in displacement, with cams, ECU mapping and other tweaks combining to provide the extra 80-90bhp gain over the stock 4200 engine in the Maser. Pretty sure there isn't much different in torque, which is ok but not mind-blowing for both.

I too have a Spyder and live in Central London and its manual too. Anybody found a way to reduce the scuttle shake?
