PS3 regions

If PS3 can play any region PS3 game (NTSC & J ), can it play any region PS1 game also? (And PS2 assuming you've got a 60gb PS2)

Likewise, if you get a NTSC J PS2, can that play NTSC J PS1 games?

I'm only asking as there are a vast amount of Japanese only PS1 games that I would like to own and play

Sadly not, they're only region-free for PS3 games. PS1 & PS2 games, DVDs and BluRays are still region locked.
