I've been talking about it for the last year or so but still keen to get it done, Andy@Apm will do the work and has experience of both NO2 and of course Cerbs, so am fairly confident he will see me right when I finally get around to giving him the go ahead... sticking point at the moment is insurance worries, I don't want to double my policy for something that realistically won't get used on her maj's highways anyway.

Andy would be a very good person to chat to about NO2.
On teh insurance issue, surly if no bottle is plumbed in in the car on the highway it can't be an insurance issue? You could carry the bottle separate to the installation point say if going to santa pod .. ie if the take-off point is in the passenger footwell carry the bottle in the boot and only install at the event? or something ..
there must be a way around it surely?

Yep Joo, that's certainly the tack I intend to take when I get of my arris and make the call. However would rather they knew about the installation and had it on file so it's all up front obviously, can't risk just claiming that after an off and once they find the plumbing - even if it was 100% the truth that no bottle was attached I suspect they would be very reluctant to pay out. My suspicion is however, that even the very mention of the word, be it for on or offroad use will send them into spasm an cause them to wind the ripoffometer round another couple of notches
In fact might give the buggers a call now as it's been on my to do list for months

More likely they might just say :

NO
- and this still doesn't provide cover for using it, i.e. not for road use and at timed events such as Santa Pod or what have you there is no cover in place anyway.. so they are charging about £700 just for having the plumbing there. Wonder what Mannings/Haggerty would say.gattor said:

Mmmm, Good article, definitely shop around. My kit has just arrived so it's going in, hopefully. Couldn't find anything from Ron Fellows on his nitrous cerb. Have you any more details please?
Being a middle aged, grumpy old git...
Don't run the car without adequate insurance, it'll be the poor sod you hit who'll suffer when your insurance company refuses to pay out.
If you want to look at it another way. A £500 increase in premium is cheap if you're getting 100 bhp more!
If you can't afford the insurance then, don't fit it. As you will be driving around uninsured.
Tim
Bare in mind if your thinking of installing any nitrous system your going to need to make sure that your engine internals are up to the addition strain if you don't what to see the rods appear through the top of your bonnet!
That said I'd pay £500 extra in insurance for the feeling when you flip the guard and press the 'scary' button and disappear into the distance (hopefuly not entering the pearly gates backwards and in flames)!

Whilst I agree that adequate insurance should always be in place, I am pretty sure that insurance companies cannot deny their third party liabilities to others, regardless of what you have and have not told them, so third parties are not at financial risk themselves... what I imagine insurance companies can do is come after you later for their losses after they have paid out, which is potentially a huge risk. As for £500 being good value for another 100bhp, yes it might be if that is what you were paying for. In my case so far however, the additional premium I was looking at, did not actually increase my level of cover - usage of the No2 on the road was not allowed and places where I would be using it (i.e. timed events such as Santa Pod, Fighting Torque etc) are excluded under the usual insurance exclusions for timed events. I do not want or need cover for these events as happy to take on the risk at these and the risks of using Nitrous, but I do want a company to note on file that I have a kit fitted for off road/event use only, their risk/liability does not really increase in anyway. Essentially the £700 was buying me the right to have the plumbing fitted only, which seems a little steep.

Or in other words, you're saying it will not be used on the road, and they frankly don't believe you. Can't say I blame them as there's nothing to stop the unscrupulous throwing the tank into the boot if they had an accidentI think if you were involved in an accident and they found the plumbing but no NOS connected up there is not alot they could really say about it. Just as long as you dont use it on the road you should be ok. This is just my personal opinion and i have no proof to back this up what so ever. The other option is a trade policy. They tend not to be interested in the vehicles on a trade policy, just the (trade) value of them. However the one i looked at didnt include high performance vehicles so i ruled that one out. :-(
