Laser front parking sensors
Discussion
I realise that there may not be a flood or replies to this but.......
.....has anyone fitted, or thought about fitting, one of those Laserpark-type, er, laser parking sensors. You know, the ones which fire a laser to see how far you are from the wall and work by detecting incoming laser signals and then beep, at which point obviously you'd know where to park, or if it gave some sort of strange false alarm whilst you were driving along the road, you'd just switch it off to stop the beeping?
Just wondered what would be the optimum location on the front of a VXR to make sure it detected, er, "parking obstacles" the most accurately?
Anonymous photos most welcome.

Thanks - I received a flyer through the post the other day for something called a Laserpark (or similar) which was both strange and timely, since I've recently had my first, ahem, "parking incident" in 15 years and it was indeed due to a lack of any laser-based aid in my car to provide me with a warning of what I was close to, so at about £100 I thought it might help me to avoid "further damage".....
yes I've had the same flyer recently but I'd do some extensive research if I was you. I did look into these a while back and there are some excellent websites to be found through a google search. Word of caution though, there have been tales of these interfering with police speed guns and certain forces logging the licence plates of cars that have errored - 2 errors against you and they come visit to inspect your car. Stories of people being prosecuted are to be found on pistonheads. I'd want to be sure that any system I fitted didnt result in such a court appearance.
Yes I have fitted them to my car when I have the front resprayed. Used a Small switch from Mitsubishi to control them (this has a symbol for parking sensors) and it all looks factory fitted now. Has already saved my front bumper from scraps on low kerbs as Ive set them just high enough to pick up kerb stones.
Got mine of Evil bay for £15 and trialed them in a bit of wood first to get the hight setting bearing in mind the front face is not vertical so its a bit of trial and error for the right location.

I would like to add to that if anyone wants to know the legal ramifications of having these fitted, if the BiB do want a piece of your arse, they will have it and no amount of excuses will get you off the hook. I have a successful friend that was dawn raided, arrrested, had his car taken to the local police workshop where it was removed of said devices and he was summoned to attend court for perverting the cause of justice. He got off only because of a technicality but I have since learned that they have now ironed that one out.
- If you can prove beyond resonable doubt that the car was fitted with these when you bought it - you might get away with it, still unlikely. However when the BiB interview the previous owner (and they will) they will soon find out and he is liable to be prosecuted too.
- This technology is outdated now anyway. Within the next year, councils will be rolling out ANPR linked databases - they are already starting to do this now in London. This means that any plate captured between any two or more cameras will result in a database search and time and distance calculation, so if you have been speeding over the average an automated ticket will be issued.
It's not looking good chaps

Oi muppets - we are talking about parking sensors, not the Laser LT300 laser garage door opener that just also happens to block laser gun readings!! two very different things.
Erm - perhaps a re-read of my original, carefully-worded post might be appropriate (including the bits between the lines....)
If you are refering to the laser detectors which are sold as garage door openers then more fool you for fitting one as the police are wise to these now and take a very dim veiw of them, think they even try to pin "perverting the course of justice" on you for it now!! Obviously this sort of thing is far more important to them than sorting out yobs and people with knives since they make no money outta those crimes!!

too much quotation marking going on here to work out "what people are talking about"
Sounds like its "garage door openers" not "parking sensors"...

I was just thinking......
What if you just wanted to park really close to your garage door.........
..........would it open?
