Hi all. I am not very computer savvy but I have previously set up a personal website using a 1 stop off the shelf "make your own website" style kit. It was about £45 a year and I keep it going and I am by and large impressed with it.

I am now forming a company and need to create a company website. I am happy to construct the website myself and was going to use a similar package to the one I used for my personal site - this provides a simple set up and maintenance process for creation of the site and then an annual fee to keep the site live of around £45 p/a.

Is this naive approach based on my needs for a simplistic website creation? Would I be better off using another programme for creating my site and then a "host" of sorts? I really know FA about how this all works and hence the attraction of a 1 stop solution.

Shnozz,

you can get good hosting cheaper than £45 per year. I would recommend using a Content Management System to create the site. That way you'd spend less time maintaining the site and have more time to spend on the business.

Personally not a fan at all of canned websites.

Make your own mark.

Totally agree with plotless. A good design really will pay off. You can see a "home made" website a mile off, never good for business.

At the end of the day, a website is a marketing tool, nothing more.

If you spent £45 a year on advertising in the local paper, what will you get? Nothing.

Same applies to a website.
