Hi, my girlfriend has a mobile on the vodafone network and unfortunately is still tied in with them for another 8 months (18 month contract).

She has pretty much had problem after problem with it but recently it has become barely usable. The problems are whenever somebody tries to ring her you have to ring 2 or 3 times before you get any kind of dialing tone it doesn't even cut into voice mail it just doesn't ring or you get a dead tone, when she has no signal instead of it diverting to voice mail like most phones do it gives the caller a busy tone. 90% of the time when she has less than 3 out of 5 bars of signal the person who phoned her can hear her talking perfectly clearly but she cannot hear anything at all.

It's getting a bit of a joke, she has called and spoken to vodafone on numerous occasions who have talked her through all the crap about switching it on and off, sending her updates etc, she has also changed her phone 3 times and they all have had the same problem.

Has anyone got any suggestions? we don't need to keep the number or anything but we also don't want to spend £180 to terminate the contract early.

Thanks

Chris

Not quite the same thing, but I had problems with sending text messages on Vodafone. Turns out something is up the creek to do with 3g, I turned it off in the phone settings under network mode and its been fine since.

Sounds like a bad SIM , i had mine replaced recently and it made a world of difference. Also worth cleaning the contacts in the phone if you can get to them.
Which model phone is it ?

Samsung U600 or similar, quite sure it isn't the sim as they sent her a replacement a little while ago with no improvement and it isn't the phone as it does it in any handset she puts the sim in

Will have a look at the 3G settings later but I don't think it is a 3g phone but worth a look smile

Force the phone onto GSM rather than 3G. Phones are still rubbish at handover between the 2 systems and causes all kinds of problems.

Rubbish. The phones are fine at it. The networks might be crap, but that's nothing to do with the UEs.

Just finished my 18 month contract with Vodafone.

Utter useless waste of space network. I too had problem after problem and the only time they listened to me was when my contract was about to expire and I wanted to leave.

They are extremely expensive and a complete waste of time.

Based on my 18 months of hell that is!

Or like my phone, you can set it to manual 2g and it changes happy as larry... for about 30 seconds, at which point it goes "oooh! oooh! A 3g signal! i'm sure you'd like that better!"

Drives me insane as 3g reception at my flat is marginal at best.

Day 1; drop it down to the lowest tariff. (11.91)
Day 2; request buy out (cheaper)

I've been with vodafone for 3 years and normally have no problems. I kept getting "cannot connect to netw." displayed. It is a 3g problem and vodafone are apparently fixing it. I've turned my 3g settings off and it's been fine every since.

The one I'm building will be cheaper than your phone.

Of course, you can't buy one, as you don't have rights to use the frequencies. The operator has to buy them and then give them to you.
