Fitting Splitter

Just fitting a standard splitter on my car whilst the carbon one is being modified.

A quick question. When fitting the splitter I have to pull in the ends of the clam 20mm or so each end to fit the splitter as the splitter does not seem to be wide enough. Is this normal. My car has never been damaged (according to previous owner) and looks straight so the clam should be OK.
