Bulk image convert BMP -> PNG

Hi folks

I need to batch convert several hundred BMP files to PNG and JPG, and I want the conversion utility to set the file create and modify attributes of the output file to be the same as the BMP and not the date and time of conversion.

This latter requirement is what has me scratching my head. My old copy of Paint Shop Pro 6 will happily do the batch conversion but won't preserve the filestamps.

GIMP is one stage worse as it won't do batch at all, but it does have a scripting engine so I guess it could be done with a plugin.

Ideally I'd like a freeware or Open Source tool - I don't want to spend big money (so PhotoShop is out)

Any suggestions?

Image Magick can be scripted do almost anything you want to a batch of images:

No idea on the created/last modified attributes though.

I must confess that I've been a bit busy of late and haven't checked them out yet.

Are there any other suggestions in the meantime?
